Daniel Jacobs has power to hurt Golovkin says Mora

jacobs-mora-7

By Dan Ambrose: Sergio Mora says WBA ‘regular” 160lb champion Danny Jacobs has the punching power to hurt IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin if he can get to his chin in the first three rounds. Mora believes that Jacobs has the better overall punching power than Golovkin. However, he feels that Golovkin has the better technique, which will kick in after the 3rd round if he’s still in the fight.

Mora sees Jacobs as having a suspect chin that Golovkin could take advantage of if he can get him past the third round.

WBA gives Golovkin-Jacobs 7-day deadline for negotiations

By Eric Baldwin: The World Boxing Association is stepping in to push the never-ending negotiations between WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and WBA ‘regular’ champion Daniel Jacobs to their conclusion by giving the fighters a 7-day deadline to wrap up their negotiations, according to RingTV.

It’s unclear whether a purse bid will be ordered at the end of the seven day deadline if the fighters haven’t reached a deal. This is good news for the boxing fans, because the negotiation have been dragging out a long, long time without the WBA stepping in to force the two sides to reach a deal.

Golovkin rates Jacobs as strongest 160lb contender

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-131

By Dan Ambrose: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is not perceived as the best of the middleweight contenders in the eyes of unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. He feels that WBA ‘regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) is the strongest of the contenders in the division. Golovkin may have unintentionally skipped over the 26-year-old Canelo due to his persistence in calling himself a junior middleweight instead of a middleweight, but my guess is Golovkin doesn’t rate him as highly as he does the 29-year-old Jacobs.

Golovkin and Jacobs are supposed to be facing each other in the first quarter of 2017 if the fight can get negotiated by their management. If not, then one of them will need to give up their WBA titles, and move on. It doesn’t look like Golovkin is going to be that guy though, because he absolutely wants to hold onto his WBA title. Golovkin’s goal is to unify all the belts in the 160lb division.

Golovkin’s promoter still working on Jacobs fight

golovkin411

By Dan Ambrose: After two months of negotiations, Tom Loeffler still doesn’t have a fight ironed out between his guy IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) and the Al Haymon managed WBA ‘regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs).

Loeffler is trying to work out a deal that makes both fighters happy. The original 75/25 mandated purse by the World Boxing Association is not agreeable on Jacobs’ side. He and his management want a bigger split. It’s up to Loeffler to see if he can find the right offer that Jacobs’ team will accept for the fight.

The target date for the Golovkin-Jacobs fight is in March or April 2017. They were supposed to have fought on December 10 on HBO Championship Boxing, but they were unable to make the deal. What’s not known is what will happen if a deal still isn’t made by April.

Sanchez hopes Golovkin-Jacobs happens in February

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-31

By Dan Ambrose: If everything goes as planned, the IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) vs. WBA ‘regular’ champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) fight will take place by February. If not, then there will be a problem, according to Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez.

Sanchez doesn’t mind too awful much that the Golovkin-Jacobs fight didn’t take place this year on December 10, because there wasn’t enough time to promote the fight on HBO Championship Boxing. But Sanchez wants to get the Jacobs fight behind them so that they can move on and accomplish bigger and better things such as beating Golden Boy Promotions flagship fighter Saul Canelo Alvarez in September.

By Dan Ambrose: Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) and his team have until March of 2017 to fight middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs), according to trainer Abel Sanchez. If the Jacobs fight doesn’t take place by March of next year, Golovkin will be moving on to other things.

Sanchez says they have other plans for Golovkin beyond March, and they’re not going to keep investing more time with the Jacobs fight. As it is, the Jacobs fight has taken the remainder of 2016.

Should Golovkin give up on Jacobs fight?

1-golovkin (1)

By Eric Baldwin: Team Golovkin is now in it’s second month of negotiations with WBA middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs’ management team, and a fight between Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) and Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) appears to be no closer to getting done than it was when the two fighters’ promoters started the negotiations.

Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler asked for a 15-day extension with the World Boxing Association on Friday to avoid the purse bid deadline of Saturday, October 22. The negotiations will now continue even though the fight is no longer going to take place on December 10 on HBO like was originally planned.

Golovkin-Jacobs negotiations: WBA gives Loeffler 15-day extension

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-52

By Dan Ambrose: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions reportedly was given a 15-day extension by the World Boxing Association to continue negotiating the Gennady “GGG” Golovkin vs. Daniel Jacobs fight. The deadline for the negotiations to end is on Saturday, October 22nd.

Golovkin has already given up the December 10 fight date on HBO. The negotiations that Loeffler is doing now are to try and get the fight put together for early 2017 in February or March. It’s hard to imagine the fight not taking place by that point if the negotiations are done, because it’s in both of their interest to keep fighting often as possible.
