Sanchez expects Jacobs to fold when Golovkin hits him

Image: Sanchez expects Jacobs to fold when Golovkin hits him

By Dan Ambrose: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez doesn’t think there is anyone in the middleweight division that can beat Golovkin right now and that includes WBA ‘regular 160lb champion Daniel Jacobs. Sanchez rates Jacobs as a good fighter, who only has one loss on his resume from his defeat to Dmitry Pirog six years ago. But he doesn’t see the 29-year-old Jacobs as being able to go the distance with Golovkin when the two fighters face each other on March 18 on HBO PPV at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Sanchez as seen all the wins that Jacobs has compiled since his loss to Pirog in 2010, but he sees those guys as being in a different class as Golovkin. Jacobs’ wins over those fighters proved that he can beat them, but they mean nothing for what he’s about to deal with when he gets inside the ring with GGG.

Image: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs official for March 18 on HBO PPV

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) has just revealed the news that he’ll be facing WBA World middleweight champion Danny “Miracle Man” Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) on March 18 on HBO pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden in New York.

This is the fight that a lot of the boxing fans have been waiting for. While it’s not as big as Golovkin vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, it’s unquestionably the second biggest fight available to Triple G in the middleweight division.

Jacobs taking big risk against Golovkin

By Chris Williams: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) and IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) are expected to have an agreement reached in their negotiations by this weekend. The Golovkin-Jacobs fight is expected to take place on March 18 on HBO PPV at Madison Square Garden in New York if the negotiations get done before the purse bid.

That’s a deal that would obviously please Golovkin’s management, because it would be on HBO, and that’s who Golovkin is under contact with.

Loeffler expects Golovkin-Jacobs to be finalized this weekend

Image: Loeffler expects Golovkin-Jacobs to be finalized this weekend

By Dan Ambrose: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions is highly optimistic that he can finalize a deal by this weekend between WBA ‘regular’ middleweight champion Danny Jacobs’ manager Al Haymon and his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for a fight in March on HBO. Loffler thinks he can get the deal made before Monday’s scheduled purse bid by the World Boxing Association. However, if the fight doesn’t get made, Loeffler is prepared to go to the purse bid and win it on Monday.

Loeffler is hoping that he work out a deal with Haymon to avoid the purse bid, because it would be more beneficial for the two management teams to finalize a deal to avert the bid. If the Golovkin vs. Jacobs fight goes to a purse bid, Golovkin would be entitled to a 75-25 purse split. That’s a great financial deal for Golovkin, but not a good one for the 29-year-old Jacobs.

Golovkin-Jacobs fight possible for Showtime

Image: Golovkin-Jacobs fight possible for Showtime

By Dan Ambrose: If middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s promoters at K2 lose the purse bid with WBA ‘regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs’ manager Al Haymon this Monday in the scheduled WBA purse bid, there’s a possibility that he could put the fight on Showtime, according to RingTV. That could mean the fight would be on regular Showtime and not on pay-per-view. Golovkin is under contract with HBO Boxing, and it’s possible that they might not be agree to let him fight on Showtime unless he’s got language in his contract that would allow for him to fight on another network.

There’s talk that Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler could negotiate the fight with Haymon before Monday to avert the purse bid. If that is what happens, then there’s a possibility the fight would take place on HBO.

Roach and Froch want Golovkin to move up to 168

Image: Roach and Froch want Golovkin to move up to 168

By Allan Fox: Trainer Freddie Roach and former super middleweight champion Carl Froch think it’s time for middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to move up to super middleweight in pursuit of bigger fights. They don’t see any opportunities for Triple G at 160, even though there’s a chance that he could get fights against Danny Jacobs and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2017.

Those two fights would seem like reason enough for GGG to stick around at 160, at least until he finds out what Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy are going to do next year. If Golden Boy chooses to keep Canelo away from Golovkin while using his name constantly with the boxing media to attract interest, then Golovkin might want to move up to 168 to see which fights he can dig up in that weight class.

Golovkin hopes to fight 4 times in 2017

Image: Golovkin hopes to fight 4 times in 2017

By Eric Baldwin: If IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) can get his World Boxing Association ordered fight against WBA ‘regular’ champion Daniel Jacobs out of the way in March, Triple G plans on fighting 4 times total for 2017.

The only thing that might prevent him from doing that is if his promoter loses the December 19 WBA ordered purse bid for his fight against Jacobs. The management for Jacobs could push the fight to beyond March, and that could further tie Golovkin down with the fight. He might end up having no time but to get even just two fights in 2017 depending on how long the fight with Jacobs drags on.

Golovkin should forget Canelo if fight isn’t made in 2017

Image: Golovkin should forget Canelo if fight isn’t made in 2017

By Dan Ambrose: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and his management need to focus only fighting guys that are prepared to get inside the ring with him when asked. Golovkin has wasted too much time in his career with trying to get fights against Saul Canelo Alvarez, Daniel Jacobs and Billy Joe Saunders.

That’s time wasted. Golovkin has got to give his promoter Tom Loeffler marching orders to forget about guys that aren’t willing to fight him within three to four months, because he doesn’t have enough time left in his career for him to be spending time trying to get fights against Jacobs, Saunders or especially Canelo if they’re not ready to get inside the ring with him pronto.

Golovkin-Jacobs deal NOT reached, WBA orders purse bid

golovkin633

By Dan Ambrose: A deal was not reached by Wednesday’s deadline of 5:00 p.m. ET for the negotiations between Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs’ management for a fight. The World Boxing Association has now ordered a purse bid on December 19 in their headquarters in Panama.

The minimum bid for the Golovkin-Jacobs purse bid is $400,000. The purse split is in favor of Golovkin 75% – Jacobs 25%. I’m sure the 25% purse split isn’t quite what Jacobs and his manager Al Haymon were looking for from the negotiations. They reportedly wanted a 60-40 deal.

Time running out on Golovkin-Jacobs 7-day deadline

golovkin633

By Dan Ambrose: It’s not looking good for the WBA’s 7-day deadline for the negotiations between middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and WBA ‘regular’ 160lb champion Daniel Jacobs. The deadline runs out this Wednesday. A purse bid will be ordered after the deadline.

Oddly enough, Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is still optimistic that he’ll be able to work a deal with Al Haymon, the manager for Jacobs, according to RingTV. However, Loeffler has been optimistic for months that he’d be able to get a deal done, and it’s just not happened.
