Canelo shouldn’t fight Golovkin now says Jeff Mayweather

Image: Canelo shouldn't fight Golovkin now says Jeff Mayweather

By Eric Baldwin: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is not in a good position to get a fight against Saul Canelo Alvarez right now, according to Jeff Mayweather. He sees Golovkin as an aging fighter that has less going for him than the younger, more popular Canelo Alvarez. Jeff says that Golovkin can scream and yell all he wants to try and get the fight against Canelo, but it’s not going to help him.

Canelo can decide when, where and why the fight with Triple G will take place, and there’s nothing he can do about it. Jeff says that the age clock is ticking with the soon to be 35-year-old Golovkin, and he’s got to be in a real hurry to try and fight the 26-year-old Canelo. He doesn’t have the luxury of waiting on the fight due to his advancing age.

Roman Gonzalez vs. Srisaket Sor Rungvisai on Golovkin-Jacobs card

Image: Roman Gonzalez vs. Srisaket Sor Rungvisai on Golovkin-Jacobs card

By Dan Ambrose: WBC super flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez (46-0, 38 KOs) will be making his first defense of his title against #2 WBC Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (41-4-1, 38 KOs) on March 18 on the undercard of the middleweight title fight between Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs on HBO pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Gonzalez vs. Rungvisai will be the co-feature bout on the Golovkin-Jacobs card. This is not nearly as interesting a fight than a rematch between Gonzalez and Carlos Cuadras. I think more boxing fans want to see a second fight between those two guys than seeing Gonzalez fight the 30-year-old Rungvisai, who has an inflated resume of mostly weak opposition.

Hunter dares Golovkin to give Jacobs a free shot

Image: Hunter dares Golovkin to give Jacobs a free shot

By Jeff Aranow: Trainer Virgil Hunter says he wants to see IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) get bored in the ring against Danny Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) and give him a free shot in their fight on March 18. Hunter is daring Golovkin to let Jacobs hit him like he’s done in the past fights against different opponents when he gets bored or when he doesn’t respect his opponent’s punching power.

That was the case in Golovkin’s last fight against Kell Brook last September. Golovkin was facing a pumped up welterweight in Brook, and he didn’t care if he was hit by him in the fight.

Jacobs tells Golovkin: It’s time to put up or shut up

Image: Jacobs tells Golovkin: It’s time to put up or shut up

By Chris Williams: Middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin finally will be facing someone dangerous with the talent level to beat him in Daniel Jacobs when these two guys fight each other in two months from now on March 18. In the minds of boxing fans, it’ll be the #1 160lb fighter Golovkin facing the #2 fighter in Daniel Jacobs.

Some would disagree with those two being the top, but it’s hard to make a case for Saul Canelo Alvarez or Billy Joe Saunders as being among the two top guys in the weight class for various reasons.

Golovkin still interested in Eubank Jr. fight

Image: Golovkin still interested in Eubank Jr. fight

By Jeff Aranow: Addressing the rumors circulating around that IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) is in negotiations for a fight against Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs), Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler says they’re not true, but they are still interested in fighting the 27-year-old fighter.

Golovkin, 34, has a tough fight on his hands against WBA World middleweight champion Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) on March 18 on HBO pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden in New York.

Jacobs has good shot of beating GGG says Rosado

Image: Jacobs has good shot of beating GGG says Rosado

By Dan Ambrose: Former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado is giving Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) a really good shot of beating IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) in their fight on HBO PPV on March 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Rosado (23-10, 13 KOs) has shared the ring with Triple G before four years ago in 2013, and he has firsthand knowledge of how good he is. Golovkin knocked Rosado out in seven rounds. Rosado had a good 5th round. Golovkin hurt Rosado in the 6th with a tremendous uppercut. The fight was halted in the 7th.

Rosado rates Jacobs’ punching power, talent and athleticism highly, and that’s why he feels he’s got a good chance of handing GGG his first loss of his career.

Golovkin vs. Jacobs: Can Daniel win?

Image: Golovkin vs. Jacobs: Can Daniel win?

By Jeff Aranow: Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) seems like a good fighter when matched correctly against beatable opposition, but he’s stepping up to the big time against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) on March 18, and it’s going to be a difficult task for the New Yorker to get through this fight without suffering his second career defeat.

Many boxing fans have suddenly jumped ship from the Golovkin bandwagon after the way he was hit a lot in the first three rounds in his last fight against Kell Brook. The fans feel that if Jacobs was able to land the same kinds of shots that Brook landed, it would be all over for Golovkin.

Will Golden Boy push Canelo-Golovkin to 2018?

Image: Will Golden Boy push Canelo-Golovkin to 2018?

By Dan Ambrose: In choosing offer middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin a mere $15 million for a that could make well over $100 million against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) in September 2017, Golden Boy Promotions could be looking to kick the fight between these two fighters to 2018 before potentially making a serious attempt at putting the fight together. Think about it; Golden Boy is only offering Golovkin a flat fee rather than a percentage deal, which is the norm for when two stars are facing each other. It’s always nice to make predictions as one year ends and another starts up. My prediction is Golden Boy will continue to push the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight further into the future until Golovkin is too old to be a threat to Canelo.

The offer from Golden Boy to Golovkin can’t be interpreted in a serious way, because it can’t be a serious offer unless they see weakness in Golovkin’s promotional team when it comes to their ability to negotiate a fight.

Jacobs using 3 Eastern European sparring partners for GGG preparation

Image: Jacobs using 3 Eastern European sparring partners for GGG preparation

By Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) has three very good Eastern European sparring partners in camp to help him prepare for his March 18 fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) on HBO PPV. The three middleweight sparring partners are as follows: Avtandil Khurtsidze (32-2-2, 21 KOs), Sergiy Derevyanchenko (9-0, 7 KOs), and Ievgen Khytrov (14-0, 12 KOs).

They’re from Eastern Europe, but all very different from Golovkin. The styles, power and more importantly, the talent is different between them and GGG. It’s unclear how much the 29-year-old Jacobs can improve in having these guys in camp.
