By Daniel Ciminera: Andy Lee was left high and dry without an opponent with John Duddy taking the decision to retire ahead of their scheduled 12th March clash, citing a lack of desire to make the sort of sacrifices required to be the fighter he needs to be as the reason for his retirement. Which as an aside, is quite a refreshing thing to hear in boxing, it would be nice to hear more guys admit this way sooner rather than fight on and do themselves harm.

By Jim Dower: With John Duddy’s sudden retirement announcement made earlier today, middleweight contender Andy Lee now needs a replacement opponent for his March 12th bout on the undercard of the Sergio Martinez vs. Sergiy Dzinziruk card in Connecticut. According to boxing news from Dan Rafael of ESPN, Lou Dibella, Lee’s promoter, is looking Peter Manfredo Jr. 37-6, 20 KO’s) or unbeaten Craig McEwan (19-0, 10 KO’s) to replace Duddy. Dibella has to speak to HBO about this, though, and see what they say.
McEwan to fight on Khan-Peterson undercard on April 16th
By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten middleweight contender Craig McEwan 19-0, 10 KO’s) will be fighting on the undercard of the Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson fight card on April 16th at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester, England. McEwan, 28, doesn’t have an opponent picked out yet, but he’s looking forward to the fight none the less. McEwan will be fighting before that on January 28th against a still to be determined opponent. McEwan will be sparring with unbeaten middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to get ready for the bout.

By Jim Dower: Undefeated middleweight prospect Craig McEwan (15-0, 9 KOs) outpointed former contest in the reality television series The Contender Brian Vera (16-3, 10 KOs) tonight by a 10-round unanimous decision at the Sunset Square, in Fort Worth, Texas. The final judges’ scores were 97-93, 97-93 and 97-93, all for McEwan.
Arreola Destroys McCline, Estrada and Garcia Both Victorious
By Dave Lahr: As expected, undefeated number #1 ranked WBC heavyweight contender Chris Arreola (27-0, 24 KOs) obliterated journeyman contender Jameel McCline (39-10-3, 23 KOs) in a 4th round TKO tonight at the Mandalay Bay Casino & Event Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Arreola, 28, cornered the big lumbering McCline in the 4th and dropped him to the canvas with a huge left-right combination to the head. The fight was then stopped by referee Tony Weeks when it became clear that McCline, 37, was too hurt to beat the count.
