By Trevor McIntyre: The World Boxing Super Series super middleweight finals between WBA 168lb champion George Groves and Callum Smith in September is heading towards Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is the potential venue for the fight, according to The Mirror. This is the same venue that cruiserweight champions Murat Gassiev and Oleksandr Usyk were supposed to fight.
By Trevor McIntyre: Former IBO super middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. (26-2, 20 KOs) and John Ryder (26-4, 14 KOs) will reportedly be on standby for the finals of the George Groves vs. Callum Smith World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) tournament finals. The recently beaten Eubank Jr. and Ryder would get the call to fill in if either of the current finals needs to pull out, according to KristineBishop.
By Danni Rocket: With the official word on the site for the final of the Cruiserweight World Boxing Super Series expected any day now, and the finalist in both weight classes (Oleksandr Usyk, Murat Gassiev, Callum Smith, and recently announced George Groves replacement Chris Eubank Jr.) now training for their fights, the first WBSS is coming to an end. Despite not being embraced by the major US television companies, and running in to several hiccups, the tournaments have been considered a huge success.

Back in 2009 we were blessed with a super middleweight tournament which contained six elite fighters; Andre Ward, Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, Jermain Taylor, Arthur Abraham and Andre Dirrell. The tournament was called The Super Six World Boxing Classic and was the brainchild of Sauerland Promotions in conjunction with Richard Schaefer and Showtime. The format was a group stage where each fighter was to take part in 3 bouts, points were to be awarded for wins, bonuses for knockouts with the top 4 eventually going through to take the semi-final berths.

Groves suffered a dislocated shoulder in his 12 round unanimous win over Eubank Jr. last February in the semifinals of the WBSS tournament.

This rumor hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it’s possible that Wednesday’s announcement for the WBSS could include the replacement of WBA Super World 168 lb. champion Groves (28-3, 20 KOs) with Eubank Jr. (26-2, 20 KOs) for the WBSS finals match against the unbeaten Callum Smith (24-0, 17 KOs).
