Image: Berto stops Quintana – Could Pacquiao be next for Andre?By Scott Gilfoid: World Boxing Council welterweight champion Andre Berto (26-0, 20 KO’s) successfully defending his WBC title for the fourth time with an 8th round stoppage win over former WBO welterweight champion Carlos Quintana (27-3, 21 KO’s) on Saturday night at the BankAtlantic Center, in Sunrise, Florida. Berto, 26, had problems in the first half of the fight with Quintana’s movement, jab and wily boxing skills.

However, in the 8th round with Quintana tiring, Berto put his offense into a higher gear and went after Quintana with power shots, hurting him badly and driving him across the ring. Berto caught Quintana in the corner and landed a huge right hand that snapped Quintana’s head back violently, causing referee Tommy Kimmons to step in and stop the bout at 2:16 of the round to prevent Berto from hurting Quintana any further.

Berto stops Quintana in 8

Image: Berto stops Quintana in 8By Sam Gregory: In the main event on the April 10th edition of HBO’s World Championship Boxing from Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, undefeated Andre Berto 25-0 with 19 KO’s defends his WBC welterweight title against southpaw Carlos Quintana 27-2 with 21 KO’s in a scheduled 12 round bout in the welterweight division.

In the opening round of the fight both men came out throwing their jab testing their opponent; Berto was looking for opening using his lightening fast jab. Quintana moved back when Berto pushed forward not giving Berto an easy shot. Berto went down in this round that was ruled a slip; a replay showed it could have been ruled a knockdown for Quintana.

Berto vs. Quintana: Is Andre the future of the welterweight division?

Image: Berto vs. Quintana: Is Andre the future of the welterweight division?By Dave Lahr: When I look at this Saturday’s bout between World Boxing Council welterweight champion Andre Berto (25-0, 19 KO’s) and Carlos Quintana (27-2, 21 KO’s), it’s scary to think that the 26-year-old Berto could eventually be the best welterweight in the division after Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley hang up their gloves for good. At 26, Berto is in a good position to outlast all those fighters and still be around long after their gone.

Berto-Quintana: The Proof is in the Performance

Image: Berto-Quintana: The Proof is in the PerformanceBy Niko Tricarico: Andre Berto has a lot to prove to the boxing public as well as to him self. In recent fights he has failed to impress with the same type of overpowering presence that he did earlier in his career. That might have something to do with the level of opposition he is now facing which has grown increasingly stiffer as he has grown in fame. A boxer usually has to make a name for him self against someone who, for one reason or another, has already done so (preferably without the help of HBO’s marketing campaigns).

Berto vs. Quintana on April 10th: Will Carlos take Andre’s title?

Image: Berto vs. Quintana on April 10th: Will Carlos take Andre's title?By Jim Dower: Former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Carlos Quintana (27-2, 21 KO’s) will be facing unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto on April 10th, at the BankAtlantic Center, in Sunrise, Florida. By far, this is the biggest fight of Berto’s six year pro career. Berto has been matched fairly softly throughout his career with arguably his hardest match coming against the light hitting Luis Collazo last year in January. Berto recently beat light welterweight Juan Urango by a 12 round decision in May 2009, which was Berto’s second fight against a light welterweight in the past year.

Berto-Quintana Set for April 10

Image: Berto-Quintana Set for April 10By Alexander Fugate: It has been reported that Andre Berto will defend his World Boxing Council welterweight title against the talented Carlos Quintana on April 10. Quintana is an excellent boxer and poses a real test for the young Berto. Since winning the WBC belt, Berto has defended it against Steve Forbes, Luis Collazo, and Juan Urango.

Both Forbes and Urango are smaller spending most of their career fighting below the welterweight division. Still, Forbes, Collazo, and Urango are all quality fighters, just one or two notches below the top echelon of fighters.

arreola-minto342By Sean McDaniel: Light middleweight Paul Williams (37-1, 27 KO’s) weighed in at 157 for his bout tomorrow against Sergio Martinez (44-1-2, 24 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Martinez, 34, weighed 159. Williams was supposed to be fighting World Boxing Council/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavli. However, Pavlik had to back out due to a staph infection on his left hand. Rather than wait around to fight Pavlik later in the month, Williams decided to go ahead and take the fight with Martinez.

Clottey vs. Quintana Off; Arreola vs. Tua in December? – News

arreola34226By Dave Lahr: One bit a bad news that hasn’t received a lot of attention with the Kelly Pavlik vs. Paul Williams bout being canceled for December 5th is that the welterweight clash between former International Boxing Federation welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (35-3, 20 KO’s) and former WBO welterweight champion Carlos Quintana (26-2, 20 KO’s) has been called off as well.

jackson5443By Steven Pink: So we have examined how the fighters rated number one in October 1989 from Heavyweight down to Middleweight might have fared against their modern day counterparts. The list has provoked debate and disagreement in equal measure but now it is time to cast our net a little wider and take in Light-Middleweight to Light-Welterweight.

News – Clottey vs. Quintana on December 5th

clottey3424314By Eric Thomas: Former International Boxing Federation welterweight champion Joshua Clottey has finally found an opponent to fight. That’s the good news. The bad part is that it will be Carlos Quintana rather than Shane Mosley, who Clottey was hoping to fight. That fight fell through when HBO decided they didn’t want to show a boxing fight on December 26th, the day after Christmas.
