Froch: Kell Brook is the replacement for Mayweather

frochBy Scott Gilfoid: Well, I’m starting to wonder if former super middleweight title holder Carl Froch has gone over the deep end. He’s now saying that he sees IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) as the heir to Floyd Mayweather Jr’s throne. Froch thinks that the soon to be 30-year-old Brook can beat anyone in the welterweight division.

Froch also believes that Brook can beat all the same guys that Mayweather has beaten in his career. This means that Brook can beat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, Marcos Maidana, and Miguel Cotto. If Brook would stop fighting mediocre opposition, then maybe we could find out if he’s any good or not. A fight against Gennady Golovkin would be a good start for him. Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn has been yapping about wanting to make that fight. If he throws a ton of cash at Golovkin and his promoters at K2 Promotions, I bet thst fight could get made. But somehow, I don’t think Hearn is at all serious about wanting to let Brook fight GGG.

Froch thinks Joshua took Charles Martin fight too soon

frochBy Scott Gilfoid: If it were up to former 168lb belt holder Carl Froch, he would have waited a little longer before putting unbeaten British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) in with IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs).

Froch thinks the fight is coming a bit too soon for the 26-year-old Joshua, especially with the way he was shaken up in his last fight by Dillian Whyte when he was clipped with a hard left hand in the 2nd round.

Froch thinks that Joshua should have waited a couple of more fights before taking on the 6’5” Martin. Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn might have taken the fight out of fear that if they didn’t face the hard hitting Martin now, they might lose out on their chance due to the potential of him getting beaten by someone else before they ever get a crack at him.

Froch: I think Khan can beat Canelo

frochBy Scott Gilfoid: Former world champion Carl Froch thinks that the much smaller and weaker welterweight Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) has a chance to pull off an upset over WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) in their fight on HBO PPV on May 7. Khan, 29, is likely to be a significant underdog in this fight because he’ll be giving away from 25 to 30 pounds to the much heavier Canelo.

At best, Khan might come into the fight at 155lbs, which will pale in comparison to Canelo, who is said by some to be weighing in the region of 185lbs after he rehydrates for his fights. Froch respects Khan for taking the fight, because it takes a lot of courage to fight someone that much heavier than him.

Canelo is even heavier than Froch was during his career. Froch stayed in the 170s for his fights at super middleweight. That kind of tells how out of proportion Canelo is in the middleweight division, especially with his habit of fighting at a catch-weight of 155lbs.

Last Chance Saloon for Three-Time Loser George Groves

groves111(Photo Credit: Lawrence Lustig) By Nedu Obi: George Groves heads into Saturday night’s fisticuffs with Andrea Di Luisa, fully aware he teeters on the precipice of world super-middleweight championship irrelevance. Without a doubt, it’s the last chance saloon for one of Britain’s most promising prizefighters.

To say the stakes are high would be an understatement bordering on the preposterous — anything save for a scintillating performance, and it’s A B C Ya — Bye! Gatekeeper status beckons.

Froch wants Groves to prove he’s not over-the-hill

groves5(Photo Credit: Lawrence Lustig) By Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch says he wants to see former three-time world title challenger George Groves (21-3, 16 KOs) to prove that he has something left in the tank when he gets inside the ring this Saturday night in his 10 round bout against Italy’s Andrea Di Luisa (18-3, 14 KOs) at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK.

Froch wants to see if Groves isn’t over-the-hill already at age 27 after getting whipped recently by WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack, and twice knocked out by Froch himself.

Pascal: Froch was better puncher than Kovalev

pascal5(Photo Credit: Vincent Ethier – Interbox) By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC 175lb champion Jean Pascal (30-3-1, 17 KOs) rates former super middleweight world champion Carl Froch as a better puncher than IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs), who Pascal will be facing this Saturday night on January 30th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Pascal lost to Froch eight years ago in 2008 in losing by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 116-112, 117-111 ND 118-110. Pascal was never shaken up in the fight or in danger of being knocked out.

One question you have to wonder about Pascal’s appraisal of Kovalev and Froch’s punching power is why didn’t Froch KO him? I mean, if Froch is supposed to be a better puncher than Kovalev, then why in the heck was Pascal able to handle his punching power for 12 rounds?

Szpilka gave Deontay some lip service during the face off after the weigh-in, saying “You are going down. You are going down.”

Froch talks Frampton-Quigg Sky Box Office fight

framptonBy Scott Gilfoid: Well, if boxing fans want to see the February 27th fight between IBF super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (21-0, 14 KOs) and WBA 122lb champ Scott Quigg (31-0-2, 23 KOs), they’re going to need to dig deep and pay to see it on Sky Box Office, as the fight will now be pay-per-view despite there not being anything listed as far as the undercard goes for their fight at the Manchester, Arena in Manchester, UK. The tickets are already sold out for the fight.

The recently retired fighter Carl Froch will be working as a commentator for Sky for the fight, and he sees the Frampton-Quigg fight as a 50-50 affair and he’s sitting on the fence as far as who will win the contest.

“It is a genuine 50-50 fight,” Froch said to skysports.com. “People might have had Carl Frampton down as the favorite in the past, but I am not so sure now.”

Froch thinks Joshua can become world champion

joshua1234By Scott Gilfoid: After seeing British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) temporarily wobbled by Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs) earlier this month on December 12, Sky Sports analyst Carl Froch now thinks that Joshua can become a world champion.

Why does Froch believe this? That’s a good question. Froch believes that because Joshua was able to survive being hurt by Whyte, it means Joshua can become a world champion. Froch doesn’t say anything about Whyte having come into the fight with an injury to his left shoulder, which he reinjured in the process of hurting Joshua with a left hook in the 2nd round.

Froch: Golovkin’s promoter doesn’t want him to come near me!

frochBy Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch says he spoke with IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler recently about a potential catch-weight fight against Golovkin, and Loeffler didn’t want the fight to take place.

Froch says he got the impression from his conversation with Loeffler that the K2 promoter didn’t want his smaller 5’10 ½” fighter to come anywhere near him. Froch figures that his superior size compared to Golovkin put Loeffler off from the idea.

Froch says he can’t make 168lbs because it would be too hard on his body if he tries to melt down to that weight from where he’s at now since he retired from boxing last year.
