Carl Frampton to face Hugo Fidel Cazares on 4/4

frampton88By Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBC, Carl Frampton (17-0, 12 KO’s) will be facing #1 WBC, Hugo Fidel Cazares (40-7-2, 27 KO’s) in a fight on April 4th at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The fight will be staged in Frampton’s home country, even though Cazares is ranked above him at #1. If I were Cazares, I’d have preferred the fight be staged on neutral turf, because the last thing he needs is stuck on the losing end of a controversial decision. I mean, I doubt Frampton will bother giving Cazares a rematch if it’s a controversial decision, and that would leave the 35-year-old Cazares high and dry.

Frampton, 26, is hoping that a win over the former two-division world champion Cazares will put him in position to face WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz in the 2nd half of 2014. I suspect Frampton will get his fight against Santa Cruz this year, but I don’t see it going well for Frampton. Santa Cruz is too powerful, too relentless and too talented for him.

Smith: Carl Frampton would beat Rigondeaux

rigondeaux655By Scott Gilfoid: Super featherweight fighter Mitchell Smith had the opportunity to spar with #2 IBF, #2 WBC, Carl Frampton (17-0, 12 KO’s) recently and he came away from the experience incredibly impressed with Frampton’s talent and power.

Smith was so impressed with Frampton that he now believes that he has the talent to beat WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (13-0, 8 KO’s) if the two were to fight, which at this point doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon due to Frampton’s management not showing a great deal of interest in putting the 26-year-old in with the Cuban fighter.

Carl Frampton targeting Leo Santa Cruz

frampton80By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated #2 IBF, #2 WBC, #10 WBO, Carl Frampton (17-0, 12 KO’s) says he wants WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (26-0-1, 15 KO’s) and he expects to be able to get a fight against him in the next 4-5 months. Frampton fancies himself to be up to the task of beating Santa Cruz, as he thinks his style is beatable for him.

“We’re going after Leo Santa Cruz now, and I think the fight can be realistically made,” Frampton said to Sky Sports. “I think I can get Santa Cruz in 4-5 months.”

Carl Frampton: I think I can beat Leo Santa Cruz

555(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (17-0, 12 KO’s) has sized up WBC 122 lb. champ Leo Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15 KO’s) after watching some of his fights and he feels he’s got the style to beat the 25-year-old Santa Cruz.

To Frampton, he sees Santa Cruz as little more than a shorter version of Antonio Margarito, a fighter known for having slow hands and a tendency to throw a lot of looping shots. Frampton thinks he’s better than Santa Cruz, and he’s really hoping he can fight him in 2014.

The week in Boxing

provodnikov518By Rachel Aylett: On revisiting the big fight of the week, I would like to give enormous credit to new WBO light-welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov. I noted whilst watching his fight against Mike Alvarado that the Siberian Rocky is almost unrecognizable from the fighter that was soundly outpointed on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights in January 2011 by Mauricio Herrera. That was a fan friendly fight, as are all of Ruslan’s engagements, but the Russian lost clearly and was out-skilled by the fringe contender from the US.

After seeing that fight it was hard to imagine that Provodnikov, just over two years later, would be able to give Timothy Bradley 12 rounds of hell and then batter renowned tough guy Alvarado to defeat on his home patch. In those days the Siberian looked like just another tough guy brawler. However, Ruslan’s transfer to the Freddie Roach stable in January 2012 along with the associated invaluable sparring he has done with Manny Pacquiao during that period, looks to have benefited him immeasurably.

Frampton comes alive

frampton633By Rachel Aylett: Tonight, in front of a raucous Belfast crowd of 9,000 Ulstermen and women, Carl Frampton successfully defended his European super-bantamweight title in a fight that also doubled as an eliminator for the IBF world title. He knocked out hapless French opponent Jeremy Parodi with a superb left hook to the body in the sixth round to put himself in line for a shot at the winner of the upcoming title fight between champion Kiko Martinez from Span and lanky South African, Jeffrey Mathebula.

It was all very predictable as, despite holding a ridiculous no.4 world ranking with the IBF, Parodi is not, never was and never will be anywhere near world class. Having said that, he fought bravely but was completely outclassed by Frampton, who most certainly is world class and never had to raise his game past second gear.

Frampton stops Parodi in 6th

parodi4By Scott Gilfoid: As you would guess, EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (17-0, 12 KO’s) stopped #4 IBF Jeremy Parodi (35-2-1, 9 KO’s) in the 6th round on Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Frampton, 26, knocked Parodi down with a left to the body in the 6th.

Parodi didn’t bother getting up, and I don’t blame him for not trying. I mean, he was like a punching bag in there and had no chance of winning due to his complete lack of power.

Why the International Boxing Federation had Parodi ranked #4 by their organization is beyond me because he looked more like a bottom #44 fighter than an actual #4. Congradulations for the good match-making by Team Frampton for picking this guy out of the pack instead of taking on talents like Leo Santa Cruz and Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Frampton faces Parodi tonight

Cyclone Promotions present Carl Frampton Weigh in at The Europa Hotel, Belfast before his IBF Super Bantamweight World Title Eliminator fight against Jeremy Parodi at The Odyssey Arena.(Photo credit: Russell Pritchard) By Scott Gilfoid: In what should be a mismatch tonight, undefeated EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (16-0, 11 KO’s) will be defending his strap against France’s Jeremy Parodi (35-1-1, 9 KO’s) at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Frampton, 26, is looking to get a fight against WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg in his next fight after this one. Parodi, with his inflated resume, is little more than a speed bump for Frampton.

Parodi isn’t going to give Frampton any problems tonight because this is actually a big step down for Frampton from his last fight against Kiko Martinez last February. Frampton didn’t look all that great in that fight until catching Martinez with a big shot while he was coming forward in the 9th to get the stoppage.

Hearn offers Frampton to fight Quigg next Spring

frampton80By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is saying that he made an offer to unbeaten Carl Frampton (16-0, 11 KO’s) to fight Hearn’s fighter WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (26-0-2, 19 KO’s) next Spring.

The fight, if Frampton and his adviser agree to it, will depend on Quigg winning his next title defense on November 23rd against a still to be determined opponent, and Frampton winning his bout this month on October 19th against #4 IBF Jeremy Parodi (35-1-1, 9 KO’s).
