Bute needs to get a couple of more tune-ups under his belt before Froch rematch

Image: Bute needs to get a couple of more tune-ups under his belt before Froch rematchBy Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) shouldn’t rush into a rematch with Carl Froch just yet. Bute showed in his win over Denis Grachev last Saturday night that Bute still needs at least two, possibly three more tune-up bouts before he’ll be ready to fight Froch again.

The reason I feel this way is because of some of the bad habits that Bute showed in his win over Grachev, as well as in his loss to Froch. In both fights, Bute frequently retreated to the ropes to try and fight from that position.

Boxing & Business

by Tom Drury: I have been following boxing for many years, also been engaging in debates on boxing websites. It seems some fans of the sport don’t have the basic understanding of the sport they love and how it is run. This article is aimed at what many fans claim is “ducking” of a fighter. “Ducking” is a phrase aimed at a fighter that does all he can to avoid a fellow fighter or waits while that fighter is past his best to fight him.

Pro Boxing Finally Returns to Dublin

Last Saturday night after almost a year’s absence with supposed cards falling through and no television support to attract big fights a small hall classic was on offer for the nearly packed house. The undercard saw Belfast’s Luke Wilton get some ring time before his long over due shot at the British Flyweight title which will hopefully take place in Liverpool some time in March. Luke stalked his opponent Stefan Slavchev in the opening round before a blitz in the second forced the referee to call the bout to a halt. Wilton now moves to 13(7)-2-1 and really needs a step up in class soon.

What excuses will Roach have if Pacquiao has another poor outing?

Image: What excuses will Roach have if Pacquiao has another poor outing?By Chris Williams: We’ve seen Freddie Roach come up with a number of excuses for his fighter Manny Pacquiao under performing in his last three fights. However, the excuses are running thin and if Pacquiao can’t beat Juan Manuel Marquez without great controversy there’s going to be a bucket-load of criticism heaped onto the heads of Roach and Pacquiao.

We’ve heard the excuse about Pacquiao having leg cramps, and we’ve heard the excuse about him having marriage problems. But this time Roach is going to have to face the music and just say it straight that Marquez is simply the better fighter with superior talent. It’s pretty obvious to the rest of the boxing world despite the excuses given each time Pacquiao has been fighting lately.

Trout could ruin a Cotto vs. Canelo super fight

Image: Trout could ruin a Cotto vs. Canelo super fightBy Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions is eager to line up Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) to be an opponent for their star in the making WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2013. Cotto is the #2 pick for Golden Boy to put in with Canelo after they make an effort to get the #1 guy Floyd Mayweather Jr. to face Canelo.

Cotto seems to be interested in facing Alvarez, and why wouldn’t he? It’s a big money fight if Mayweather isn’t available to fight Cotto again or Manny Pacquiao doesn’t show any interest in fighting Cotto at the full weight for the junior middleweight division.
