Old school jealous of new school?

By Robert Elmore: The way that some these sports journalists, boxing analysts, and old school fighters talk about the way promoters robbed them of money, that they would be happy that some fighters of this generation are taking more of an active role in their careers.

Hughie Fury defeats Hrvoje Kisicek

By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight Hughie Fury (11-0, 6 KO’s) stayed unbeaten tonight with a 6-round decision over Hrvoje Kisicek (4-6, 1 KO’s) at the Hermitage Leisure Centre, Whitwick, Leicestershire, United Kingdom. Hughie won by a 60-54 score by referee Shaun Messer 54-60. What was extremely disappointing about Hughie’s performance was that he couldn’t stop Kisicek.

Hughie Fury vs. Hrvoje Kisicek today

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (10-0, 6 KO’s) continues with his chase today of Mike Tyson’s record for being the youngest heavyweight champion to ever win a world strap. Fury, 19, will be facing little known Croatian fighter Hrvoje Kisicek (4-5, 1 KO’s) in a scheduled 6 round bout at the Hermitage Leisure Centre, Whitwick, Leicestershire, United Kingdom.

Mike Tyson was just 20-years-old when he first captured a world heavyweight title in beating Trevor Berbick in 1986. For the 19-year-old Hughie to eclipse that record, he’s going to have to push his promoter to start putting him in with live bodies because the guys they’ve been carting out for him to fight aren’t going to get young Hughie a title shot. I mean, this isn’t like a Rocky movie where Apollo Creed looks for un-ranked Rocky Balboa to give him a title shot just for the heck of it.

Hyped fighters

By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: What does a fighter do if the opportunity of a lifetime comes along? The money is the there and the notoriety can bring more attention to themselves. The fighter has been working his way through the ranks, bu it has been against B level competition. His team has gotten him some decent money, but the grand opportunity brings more.

Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia at 140

By Adrian Alvarez Jr: After watching a throwback fight of Miguel Cotto’s vs. Carlos Maussa another undefeated prospect from Colombia at the time, I was reminded of what a strong Junior Welter and Welterweight Cotto was so it brought a question who wins between 140lb Cotto and now reigning and defending 14olb junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia?

British Boxing: Is the scene booming or are we just that step below the world elite

barker100By Dean Bain: British boxing seems to be going through a rich patch at the moment with lots of good young fighters coming through along with 5 current world champions, there are also many fighters on the verge of a world title fight.

The 2012 Olympics were held in the UK and TeamGB came out on top of the boxing rankings. 3 gold medals, 1 silver and a bronze were claimed. From the medal winners Anthony Joshua, Luke Campbell and Anthony Ogogo have turned pro and look to have very bright future ahead of them. Luke Campbell for me looks the pick of the bunch and in his 2 pro fights so far has put in a performance that looked beyond his years. He has good movement, quick and can pack a punch too. With 2 pro fights and two KO within the first 2 minutes of the first round its clear to see he needs to move on to the next level of fighters to test himself. Hopefully Matchroom sports can keep him busy and gradually improve the quality of opponent

Cotto controls fight; earns early stoppage over Rodriguez

cotto552By Ahad Khan: Miguel Cotto (38-4) impressed with a 3rd round TKO victory over Delvin Rodriguez (28-7-3) on October 5th in Orlando, Florida. Cotto erased any doubts about being washed up with a dominating performance that culminated with a left hook upstairs early in the 3rd round.

The signature punch from Cotto sent Rodriguez into the ropes and onto the canvas, after which the fight was promptly stopped.

Cotto controlled the pace and the ring in the first two rounds, constantly bouncing and stalking Rodriguez around the squared circle. Seconds before the bell signaling the close of the second round, Cotto landed a couple of thudding shots against Rodriguez while the underdog was pinned against the ropes near his corner.

Terence Crawford vs. Andrey Klimov this Saturday on HBO

crawford1111By Allan Fox: #1 WBO lightweight contender Terence Crawford (21-0, 16 KO’s) will be in action this Saturday night against undefeated #6 IBF, #11 WBO, Andrey Klimov (16-0, 8 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Delvin Rodriguez card on HBO at the Amway Center, in Orlando, Florida, USA.

This is kind of a step down for Crawford from his last fight against Alejandro Sanabria. Crawford stopped the hard hitting Sanabria in the 6th round last June.

The 31-year-old Klimov’s claim to fame was a controversial 10 round majority decision win over John Molina last June in Shelton, Washington, USA. That was a very questionable win for Klimov because Molina had landed by far the harder shots, and he was almost as busy as Klimov.

Khan vs. Mayweather: An Interesting Blend of Styles

floyd400By Craig Hilton: If Amir Khan could choose a style of opponent to face, it would be a counter-puncher that likes to fight on the back-foot. Some of his most accomplished victories have come against this type of fighter. So as negotiations for a fight between Devon Alexander and Khan have stalled, an Amir Khan versus Floyd Mayweather fight now appears on the horizon.

At thirty-six, Mayweather is still the best counter-puncher in world boxing but now appears to be seeking the challenge of fighting an opponent with speed and stamina. For Khan, this is his dream fight, an opportunity for a redemptive performance following his defeats to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia. For Mayweather, it’s an opportunity to sharpen his tools in preparation for a super-fight with Manny Pacquiao.
