Hopkins Bigger Legend Than Calzaghe?

cal4524545431By Michael Allan: You will be thinking how this is possible after in April 2008 Joe Calzaghe beat Bernard Hopkins on a split decision. Well there are many reasons behind it in fact. Calzaghe ended his career undefeated with 46 wins, but really even a big boxing fan like myself would say that Calzaghe only fought around 4 or 5 big names out of his 46 fights. Hopkins, Jones, Kessler, Lacy and Eubank they are the only real big names that he has faced.

Is Adamek the Best Option for Hopkins?

hop43456356By Chris Williams: At 44, Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) is interested in picking up a third world title in a different weight class and is looking at the prospect of fighting IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek, according to Dan Rafael from ESPN. You can’t blame Hopkins for wanting to continue on with his boxing career, because after all, he recently made Kelly Pavlik look really bad in defeating him by a 12-round unanimous decision in October 2008.

Calzaghe Not Interested In Hopkins Rematch

cal56234523231By Scott Gilfoid: I can’t say I was surprised to hear that Joe Calzaghe wasn’t interested in coming out of retirement for a rematch with Bernard Hopkins. Apparently, Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer had hopes of luring Calzaghe out of retirement for a match against Hopkins, who badly wants a shot at avenging his 12-round split decision loss to Calzaghe in April 2008.

Hopkins Still Wants Calzaghe Rematch: Why Not Dawson?

hopkins5746By William Mackay: Possibly still smarting from his 12-round split decision loss to Joe Calzaghe (46-0, 32 KOs) in April 2008, Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) reportedly wants a rematch with Calzaghe to try and clear up the close loss between the two fighters. Unfortunately for Hopkins, Calzaghe closed up shop and decided to retire from the sport rather than give Hopkins his much needed chance for revenge. It doesn’t appear at this point that Calzaghe is going to be coming back now or ever, no matter how much money is offered to him.

Trinidad Wants Bouts With Pavlik and Hopkins

trinidad522267By Manuel Perez: In an article by Jaime Torres Torres at El Neuvodia, former welterweight and light middleweight champion Felix Trinidad (42-3, 35 KOs) is interested in a fight with WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik and getting a rematch with Bernard Hopkins, saying ” “Hopkins beat me, but he never wanted to give me a chance at revenge. Pavlik could fight with me in the 165 pounds. But they are boxers who fear being beaten.”

Pavlik Willing To Fight Hopkins, But Only At 160

pav53444By Dan Ambrose: On today’s Steve Bunce Boxing Hour show, Kelly Pavlik’s trainer revealed that Pavlik is interested in fighting a rematch against Bernard Hopkins, but that if the fight takes place, it will have to be at 160 and not 170 or 175. Last time, Pavlik had to put on 10 pounds and move up to 170, which left him slow and lethargic at that weight. Hopkins, used to fighting at 175, easily took off the extra five pounds and ended up giving Pavlik a real licking, beating him soundly by a 12-round unanimous decision.

Why Won’t Hopkins Fight Dawson?

hop554646By Dan Ambrose: Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) has accomplished a lot in his career, holding the middleweight title for 11 long years before losing it to Jermain Taylor in 2005. Hopkins then, after losing another time against Taylor in a rematch December 2005, moved up to the light heavyweight division where he defeated Antonio Tarver and Winky Wright before losing once again, this time to Joe Calzaghe.

Joe Calzaghe – A True Great?

cal730By Ash Choudhury: With the recent announcement of Joe Calzaghe’s retirement, questions are being asked as to whether his amazing record of 46-0 has been padded or if it truly reflects his greatness. Just the name Calzaghe creates many differences in opinion between boxing experts and casual fans alike. Some say that his record is lacks any real defining fights as his fights with Hopkins and Jones came too late, whereas others believe he beat everyone that was put in front of him.

What Does Calzaghe’s “0” Mean?

cal452325By Scott Gilfoid: For some people when they see Joe Calzaghe’s unbeaten 46-0 record they think of a fighter they consider to be an all time great, someone along the lines of a Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson or Muhammad Ali. After all, there are few fighters that could amass an accumulated record of wins like Calzaghe accomplished in his career. But in getting all these wins, it leaves with a couple of thoughts: Either Calzaghe was an exceptional fighter who beat everyone that was put in front of him or he was lucky to have fought largely marginal fighters with the exception of a few good opponents during his entire 16-year career.

Is Calzaghe’s Legacy Tarnished For The Fights He Didn’t Take?

cal45435By William Mackay: Through a career that spanned 16 years with three titles won in the super middleweight division, Joe Calzaghe (46-0, 32) incredibly only has a small handful of opponents that I would consider to be good fighters. The vast majority of them fought in a nine year period when he held the WBO super middleweight title were mostly forgettable opponents, not the type that would stand out and garner attention.
