By Matt Stein: Former two-time super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (39-3, 23 KO’s) easily beat Argentinian Carlos Adan Jerez (30-13-3, 16 KO’s) by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision in a stay busy fight on Wednesday night to capture the vacant WBA International light middleweight title at the Entertainment Centre, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The final judges’ scores were 118-110, 118-110 and 120-109. Mundine, 35, looked good throughout in dominating his badly over-matched opponent.

Mundine, 35, is moving down in weight to the light middleweight division in hopes of having a better chance at winning a world title. It seems like a usual move given that Mundine vacated his WBA super middleweight title in late 2008.

Mundine, 35, will be facing Jorge Daniel Miranda (36-8, 13 KO’s) later on this month on June 30th for the vacant WBA International light middleweight title.

This must be an Australian thing, because although the 29-year-old Katsidis is a tough fighter and powerful for a lightweight, he would seem to be way too small to beat a fighter the size of Mundine.

Mundine To Face Sturm Next?

mundine33523By Jim Dower: Now that middleweight contender Anthony Mundine (35-3, 23 KOs) has beaten fellow Australian Shannan Taylor, Mundine is next in line for a shot at World Boxing Association middleweight champion Felix Sturm (31-2-1, 13 KOs), who has until the end of October to fight Mundine or end up having his title taken away from him from the sanctioning body. That fight will probably take place unless Sturm opts for a big money fight against IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham, a fight which would be a huge fight in Germany considering that both fighters fight out of Germany.
