Andy Lee vs. Peter Quillin tonight on NBC from the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York

lee43335By Scott Gilfoid: WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-2, 24 KOs) will be fighting Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs) tonight in what was supposed to be Lee’s first defense of his World Boxing Organization world title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Quillin failed to make weight at the weigh-in last Friday, meaning that the Lee-Quillin fight won’t have a title on the line tonight. Quillin has been out of the ring for an entire year, so you can’t blame him for coming in at 161.9 pounds at the weigh-in.

Andy Lee: It could be explosive once Quillin and I exchange punches

lee91By Scott Gilfoid: WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-2, 24 KOs) expects to see fireworks on Saturday when he and former WBO 160 pound champion Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs) let their hands go in their fight on NBC on Premier Boxing Champions at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Lee, 30, feels that he’s made a lot of progress with his career in the past year in terms of the technical changes he’s made after working hard in training camps. Lee has bailed himself out of tough situations in fights against John Jackson and Matt Korobov by landing huge right hooks to capture the wins.

Andy Lee: I want to be remembered as a great champion

1-Andy Lee wins WBO titleBy Scott Gilfoid: WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-2, 24 KOs) will be making his toughest fight in quite some time when he defends his WBO strap this Saturday night against the speedy fast and very powerful unbeaten Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Lee has a tough task ahead of him against Quillin because the American fighter can both slug and box. He’s equally talented in both areas, so he can kind of pick and choose how he wants to deal with the 6’2” Lee.

Lee, 30, says he’d like to defend his title three times successfully and then retire from boxing as one of the great ones. Unfortunately if Lee only defends his WBO title three times, he’s hardly going to be remembered as a great one. Beating Quillin definitely won’t be a big enough win to make Lee great.
