By Sean McDaniel: Newly crowned European Boxing Union (EBU) lightweight champion John Murray (29-0, 17 KO’s) wants a fight against either WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan or unbeaten lightweight contender Kevin Mitchell, according to the latest news. Murray, 25, is coming off an 11th round stoppage win over Gary Buckland last Friday night at the Kingsway Leisure Centre, in Cheshire, England. It was a workmanlike performance from the 25-year-old Murray but not one that would lead me to believe that he could beat Mitchell or Khan.

De La Hoya thinks Khan can become a legend
By Scott Gilfoid: Oscar De La Hoya sees himself in World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s), according to the Sun It’s hard to imagine what he sees, because Khan still is almost totally unproven at this point in his career and has already been knocked out once against Breidis Prescott despite not having faced the cream of the crop in either the lightweight or the light welterweight divisions. De La Hoya, still, sees something in Khan that reminds him of his younger days. By the way, De La Hoya’s company Golden Boy Promotions just so happens to promote Khan.

By William Mackay: Former IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KO’s) says that WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) is in for a beating on Saturday night in their May 15th bout at Madison Square Garden in New York. Khan, a former Silver Medalist from the 2004 Olympics, is coming into this Saturday’s fight as a favorite to win by gambling sites. However, Malignaggi thinks that Khan is making a huge mistake by choosing him to fight and is looking to knock Khan out and send him packing back to Britain, where he comes from.

Who Khan plans on fighting there is the big question. In an article in the Mirror, “I’m fighting at the Mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden. Ali, Tyson, De La Hoya all fought there and I want my name to be up besides theirs. But after this fight, I want to bring the biggest fights to the UK.”

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion (22-1, 16 KO’s) is expecting to beat the stuffing out of Paulie Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KO’s) on May 15th. In fact, Khan is thinking that he’ll beat Malignaggi so badly that he’ll end up retiring from boxing afterwards. In an article at the Dailystar, Khan says “This will probably be Paulie’s last fight because after this he will not want to out the gloves on again…I feel so strong and sharp. It is such a shame I am fighting Paulie for my debut fight because I want to out a great fight on for my American fans. But I honestly don’t think he will be the same fighter this fight.”

By William Mackay: World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) says he wants to silence his critics by lining up the champions after his fight on May 15th against Paulie Malignaggi. In an article by writer Steve Bunce at the Mirror, Khan says “This is not an easy fight [referring to his bout against the light hitting Malignaggi] like some people claim and after this I will silence people by fighting one of the top Americans. I’ve heard a lot of people accusing me of taking the easy route and that is crazy. I fight the men my promoters put in front of me. There are other champions at the moment and I want to start lining them up right now.”

By Chris Williams: Light hitting former IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KO’s) is promising to knockout WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) next week on May 15th at Madison Square Garden. If this wasn’t Khan, who has a brittle chin, I wouldn’t give Malignaggi much of a chance to accomplish it. However, the 23-year-old Khan has already been knocked out once in his career and has been dropped a number of times in his short career by mostly light punchers.

By Sean McDaniel: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan finally received his work visa to fight in the United States, according to Fight News. Khan, 23, received his work permit today and will be flying out to New York to get ready for his May 15th fight against Paulie Malignaggi at Madison Square Garden. Khan’s work visa previously expired over 10 days ago, making it necessary for him to leave the United States and reapply from Vancouver, Canada. There was worry by some people that Khan’s work visa might not be approved in time for his May 15th bout.

By William Mackay: Promoter Frank Warren believes that World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) has the easier fight against former IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KO’s) compared to his unbeaten fighter Kevin Mitchell (31-0, 23 KO’s), who will be facing WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis (26-2, 21 KO’s) on the same night on May 15th, according to Boxrec. Warren used to promote Khan until recently when Khan switched over to Golden Boy Promotions. Warren says “Malignaggi is an easy fight for Amir while Kevin has taken a hard one. Amir is fighting in front of 5000 while Kevin [Mitchell] will have 20,000.”
