Things are set up perfectly for the 23-year-old Canelo too look great in this fight, as long as Angulo doesn’t spoil the party by beating him in front of a nationwide audience.
Canelo needs to stay busy in this fight, and not make the mistake of thinking he can mimic Floyd Mayweather Jr. like he did in his recent 12 round majority decision loss to Mayweather last September. Canelo is a good fighter when he’s using his strengths – power, pressure and inside fighting – but he’s less effective when he tries to box. With that said, Canelo will likely try and box Angulo on Saturday night instead of playing to what he does well by getting in the face of Angulo and beating him at his own game.

He is an extremely cerebral trainer who will always devise the best game plan/strategy possible for his fighter to execute and succeed with. If any one of the fighters in his stable faces an opponent who has bad tendencies, flaws or weaknesses, you can be certain that Hunter will know exactly what they are and how his fighter can effectively exploit them during a fight.
By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Virgil Hunter believes that his fighter Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) is in a tough situation this Saturday in his fight against the highly popularly but very flawed Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s). Hunter thinks it’s going to require a knockout for Angulo to get a win over Canelo, because the judges likely won’t give a decision to Angulo over a fighter that has the popularity and who brings a lot of fans to the sport.
By Dan Ambrose: Amir Khan worked on sparring with Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) for weeks in Oakland, California to get him ready for his match-up against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan learned a lot from Angulo, and enough to know that he has the potential to knock the red-headed Canelo out if he lands with a good shots. Khan thinks Canelo won’t be fighting Angulo in a toe-to-toe fashion on Saturday night, but rather in more of a boxing match in order to take advantage of his skills and quickness.
By Gerardo Granados: After his disappointing performance against the pound for pound best boxer and future hall of fame member Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) has selected Alfredo “Perro” Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) as his opponent to face this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The betting odds show Canelo as a huge favorite to win, but when a fighter has one punch KO power like Angulo does things might become more interesting to watch.
By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is trying to stay on the fence for this Saturday’s Showtime pay-per-view bout between former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) and Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in las Vegas, Nevada. Schaefer promotes both fighters, but he probably realizes that it might not be a good thing for him to side with the red-headed Canelo in this fight in case Angulo pulls off a mini upset and beats him on Saturday.
By Dan Ambrose: This Saturday boxing fans are going to get the chance to find out if the red-haired former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1-, 30 KO’s) is for real or just a pretender built up by Golden Boy Promotions when Canelo faces Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) on Showtime pay-per-view in a 12 round bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fact that Canelo is asking boxing fans to pay to see him fight with him coming off of a one-sided loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. from last September is one of the oddest things that you’ll ever see.
