By Dan Ambrose: Alfredo Angulo hints that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) lacks the heart, which is why he’s chosen to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1 32 KOs) in his next fight on May 6 instead of middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs). Angulo, who lost to Canelo by a 10th round knockout in March 2014, says the reason why Chavez Jr. getting the fight is because he doesn’t have the same boxing skills as Golovkin, and that he’ll likely struggle to make the 164.5lb catch-weight fight the fight on May 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Angulo says that Canelo and his promoters know that Chavez Jr. is going to struggle to make the weight in having to melt down to the catch-weight limit.

Mikey Garcia wants title shot against Flanagan or Zlaticanin

Image: Mikey Garcia wants title shot against Flanagan or Zlaticanin

By Dan Ambrose: Mikey Garcia (35-0, 29 KOs) looked sensational in his fight last month against Elio Rojas in stopping him in the 5th round last month on July 30 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Former two division world champion Garcia, 28, is now looking to get a title shot against WBC lightweight champion Dejan Zlaticanin or WBO champion Terry Flanagan straightaway if possible.

If either of those fights could be put together, it would Garcia an excellent chance of winning a world title before the end of the year. The World Boxing Council gave Garcia a big helping hand this week with them ranking him at No.2 at lightweight with their organization. What this means is that Mikey will soon be getting a title shot against Zlaticanin even if he choose to steer around him to avoid what could be a very difficult fight.

Purses for “Mayhem”: Mayweather $32M, Maidana $3M, Angulo $500K

_DSC2251(Photo credit: Idris Erba/Stephanie Trapp/Mayweather Promotions) By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) is getting big bank for his rematch against Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) on Saturday night. Mayweather will be getting a guaranteed $32 million for the fight, and that’s not counting the pay-per-view money. Maidana will be making $3 million. That’s big money in Argentina where Maidana lives.

In what is a real surprise in terms of purses is middleweight Alfredo Angulo getting $500,000 for his fight against James De La Rosa. Angulo has been knocked out in his last two fights, and looked totally shot in his last fight in taking one-way punishment against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last March.

September 13 Mayweather-Maidana 2 undercard fights rated: Could one steal the show

angulo554By Gav Duthie: Mayweather and Golden Boy promotions have decided not to opt for chief undercard support this Saturday like they did with Amir Khan v Collazo but the undercard is shaping up nicely. There are some fairly competitive fights and titles on the line. Here we rate the fights and speculate if any might outshine the main event.

Humberto Soto 64-8-2 (35) v John Molina 27-4 (22)
Fight Rating: 9/10
Fight Type: All action

This has the potential to be the fight of the night. I love fighters like John Molina. Will he ever become a world champion, probably not but it doesn’t matter. He always entertains and always gives us good fights. He’s a Mickey Ward, Arturo Gatti type throwback who will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final bell. He might feel a little hard done by on Saturday as he watches  Mickey Bey fight for a world title after he amazingly stopped him in round 10 for his only loss to date.
