Angulo and Kirkland possibilities for Sergio Martinez’s next fight

By Jason Kim: If Miguel Cotto doesn’t choose to fight WBC Emeritus champion Sergio Martinez (47-2-2, 26 KO’s), which doesn’t seem likely due to Cotto’s promoter Bob Arum looking to keep Cotto in house with a fight against Antonio Margarito in July, Martinez could wind up fighting Alfredo Angulo (19-1, 16 KO’s) or James Kirkland (26-0, 23 KO’s) next. Dan Rafael at ESPN is reporting that Martinez’s promoter Lou Dibella is exploring the possibilities of Martinez facing Angulo next.

Light Middleweight world titles are becoming like a peace pipe

Image: Light Middleweight world titles are becoming like a peace pipeBy Mark Hepplestall: After another loss for Anthony Mundine and looking at the world rankings, we must ask who are the current world champions? Well after some research I can say Manny Pacquiao holds the WBC light middleweight title and is number 1 in the world, Miguel Cotto holds the World Boxing Association (WBA) version and is number 2 in the world, IBF version is held by Cornelius Bundrage and is number 7 in the world and WBO is held by Serhiy Dzinziruk who is 26th in the world. While the titles that are not world recognized including the IBO title is held by Zaurbek Baysangurov and is 17th in the world. It seems weird that the world champions are ranked lower then some of the best contenders in the division.

Angulo pricing himself out of the Martinez fight makes it possible for Williams-Martinez II rematch

By Jason Kim: Yesterday, top junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo turned down $750,000 to fight WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez because Angulo wanted $1 million for the fight. Since that wasn’t going to happen, Martinez is now looking to fight a rematch against Paul Williams. HBO wants the fight, boxing fans want the fight and it should be an exciting one if Williams and Martinez’s promoters can work out the deal to make this fight happen. The fight will be taking place in November, not October, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Martinez lost by 12 round majority decision to Williams last year in December, in a fight that many boxing fans felt that Martinez should have won.

Angulo vs. Cotto: Would Miguel take this fight?

Image: Angulo vs. Cotto: Would Miguel take this fight?By Joseph Hirsch: It’s hard not to like Alfredo Angulo. He is the definition of crowd pleasing, and he has given us some of the most violent knockouts in recent memory. Compare his official HBO highlight reel to those of other top fighters, and you get the picture. He has one loss, to the flaky but very talented Kermit Cintron. It’s too bad that “El Perro,” encountered that earlier Cintron, and not the one who likes to fly out of the ring; and it’s also too bad that he faced him so early in his career, when he wasn’t even fifteen fights deep into the game.
