Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: The day after tomorrow

1-02By Yannis Mihanos: Like there is no Tomorrow. That’s what I expected from the so called “Battle of the Century” between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. This huge pay per view event should have been an experience once in a lifetime.

The two greatest fighters for a whole generation Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao. But little did I know it would be a disappointment.

Was Pacquiao’s shoulder injury an accident waiting to happen?

1-MAYPAC WEIGH IN-TRAPPFOTOS-3614By Yannis Mihanos: Many people were surprised with Manny Pacquiao’s (57-6-2, 38 KOs) reaction right after the fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao basically said that he fought while injured with a right shoulder problem.

In all pre-fight videos and especially in the media work out day, Pacquiao was flying: he appeared as strong, as sharp and as relaxed as ever. As the days passed we also witnessed an almost complete reverse in betting odds presenting Pacquiao not as an underdog but close to favorite for the fight.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: When history repeats…and a sincere apology…

1-MAYPAC-FIGHTNIGHT-TRAPPFOTOS-5568By Yannis Mihanos: History repeated last Saturday night. History was repeated for the 48th time. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) is now officially and unofficially the undisputed king of boxing.

Last Saturday night he defeated his biggest enemy Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) by a wide unanimous decision and sealed his place in boxing history as one all-time great.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Like there is no Tomorrow…

1-Pacquiao_Mayweather_150429_002aBy Yannis Mihanos: Tomorrow is the biggest fight of our recent boxing history with Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KOs) on 5/2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. By now the two fighters have done their best in training to be at a tip top condition.

None of them could afford to miss a day of training. They are both elite professionals no doubt about that. They both have prepared like there is no Tomorrow.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: For whom the Bell tolls on May 2nd?

1-12By Yannis Mihanos: This Saturday night Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will facing each other in their long-awaited mega-fight on May 2nd in front of a sold-out crowd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The way I see the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight initially going is like this: In round 1, the bell rings, Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) enters the ring like a rampaging bull, while Mayweather stands back and takes his favorite defensive position waiting to hit and run.

Floyd Mayweather Jr: The cult of personality

1-_DSC4087By Yannis Mihanos: The biggest fight for a whole generation in boxing, Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao is getting closer with just three days to go before Saturday’s fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The excitement has hit the red button. Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) through the years has succeeded in constructing a marketable image that was a product of a meticulous business and marketing plan.

Like I’ve said in past articles, Mayweather leaves nothing to chance. Being at the sport as a businessman has always been and will always be his first choice.

Will Mayweather be forced out of his comfort zone against Pacquiao?

floyd933By Yannis Mihanos: Comfort Zone is the place that we all thrive. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KOs) has been seen in training trying various kinds of methods (chopping wood, swimming, putting in long hours in the gym, and strength training) for the big fight on May 2nd at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada against Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs).

For the first time in years Mayweather is training unusually hard and different. That to me shows how much he values this fight and this opponent. In the past Mayweather has always tried to degrade Pacquiao by presenting him as a lesser fighter, making fun of him, comparing him with other fighters and saying that he does not belong at all to his level.

Will Pacquiao’s speed prove too much for Mayweather?

Manny PacquiaoBy Yannis Mihanos: There is a DC comic book hero called The Flash. Flash has lightning speed and can overcome any of his enemies. With his speed can overcome enemies much stronger than him.

Many past opponents of Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) have experienced from first hand his tremendous hand speed. Past opponents like Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton and Marco Antonio Barrera have all been overwhelmed at some point and got defeated by Pacquiao’s greatest weapon: Speed.

Floyd Mayweather Jr: 2 Blueprints for beating Pacquiao

1-_DSC8105By Yannis Mihanos: The blueprint in beating Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2) seems to be out there available in his 5 defeats in the past. The one blueprint that seems to stand out of them more is also his most recent one: it is in the 4th fight against Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012. In that fight an impatient and reckless Pacquiao got knocked out and stopped in the 6th round by Marquez.

I believe this is the general idea that runs into Floyd Mayweather Jr’s mind and of course to his training team. I believe this is also the main focus of his training, and that’s why he has gone into all these different types of training: to make him become stronger.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Cementing or Destroying Legacy?

pac777By Yannis Mihanos: The Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight for many will decide boxing history when the two of them go at it on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Oh, did I just say boxing history? Yeah right. To be more to the point this fight is all about boxing legacy.

Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0) is the undefeated champion that puts everything on the line in this fight. All unforeseen factors that went on from last December lead him to take the big decision and fight his biggest threat, the only man alive who seems capable to stop his undefeated record: Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2).
