By Yannis Mihanos: Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) proved himself as a formidable opponent with his performance against the very aggressive IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs) in beating him by a 12 round decision to win his IBF title last Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Will the second time be lucky for Marcos Maidana against Mayweather?

A second chance to fight again the number 1 pound for pound king of boxing Mayweather jr (46-0, 26 KOs) on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Kell Brook weathers the Porter storm
By Yannis Mihanos: As I witnessing Kell “The Special K” Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) for the first time in beating IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs) last Saturday night, I must say that he did convince me. His performance was not outstanding but it was rock solid.
Anybody else would have fallen after the ferocious attacks of Porter starting from round 1 up to round 12, but no, not this one, not this guy.
At the beginning I was a bit sceptic with what I would see from Brook cause many times fighters who come with clean sheet records are not in reality what they seem to be (paper champs). That was clearly not the case here. The lad from Sheffield England was well trained and determined and win.
The eternal battle: The boxer vs. puncher- Chapter 2
By Yannis Mihanos: Can the boxer beat the puncher or is the puncher much better than the boxer? Is Manny Pacquiao better than Floyd Mayweather Jr or is Money is better than Pacman? Who is the absolute best? Because there must be someone who is better than the other or not? Who has the edge if there is any?
The eternal battle: The boxer vs. the puncher – chapter 1
By Yannis Mihanos: There is a fight that never ends in boxing. It’s a fight between two complete different styles, two complete different schools. It’s a fire vs ice kind of thing, raw power vs high intelligence.
Is Mayweather afraid of Maidana fouling him nonstop in the rematch?
By Yannis Mihanos: In recent interviews by Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0,26 KO), he’s talked about wanting to get a good referee that would be vigilant to all of Marcos Maidana’s (35-4, 31 KOs) attempts at making it a dirty fight in their rematch on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It seems to me that all the pulling and pushing into the ropes that Maidana did in the previous fight with Mayweather didn’t go well with the #1 pound-for-pound star. Mayweather ended up with a cut from a head-butt.
Is Chris Algieri bad news for Pacquiao?
By Yannis Mihanos: After hitting the jackpot with his surprising victory over the heavy hitter Ruslan Provodnikov, Chris Algieri became a known fighter from virtually an unknown one. Suddenly many people in boxing know who Chris Algieri is.
So the question that automatically now surfaces is how much of a bad news is this new opponent for the people’s favorite champ and now WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao?
Pacquiao has to wait until the 22nd of November to fight. That’s for me the first bad news. All fans around the world with me included after that convincing victory over Timothy Bradley last April were expecting from Manny to fight more often than almost once a year.
Canelo passes the maturity test against Lara
By Yannis Mihanos: Former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KO) proved last Saturday night that he has matured a lot by beating a difficult and skillful fighter Erislandy “The American dream” Lara (19-2-2, 12 KO) by a 12 round split decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Golden Boy promotions president Oscar De la Hoya was very much nervous about Canelo taking this fight as it was considered a high risk fight for the 23-year-old Canelo. Oscar would have preferred an easier fight than having Canelo fight a dangerous guy like Lara. But Canelo insisted that he wants Lara to fight next and he was proved right.
Can Deontay Wilder beat Wladimir Klitschko today?
By Yannis Mihanos: Wladimir Klitschko rules the heavyweight division today. He is indeed a high mountain to climb. Since his last loss out of the hands of Lamon Brewster in April of 2004, he has remained unbeaten and unfazed for the last 8.5 years.
So far he has been pretty consistent with 16 successful title defenses. His next title defense is against Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria and is expected to be a comfortable one.
The problem with the heavyweight division is that no one respects the Klitschko brothers and their achievements although they have stood out for the last 10 years. It is evident that this division lacks of depth and quality. There is not enough talent, discipline and consistency of results.
Is Wladimir Klitschko a real champion?
By Yannis Mihanos: What happened to this once exciting division that now no one gives a penny to watch? The times of reign of Iron Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Evander Hollyfield, Muhammed Ali, George Foreman and Joe Frazier are long gone but the time of Wladimir Klitshko has not yet to end.
Since the departure of his older brother Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir seems to be the last man standing in the heavyweight division.
Wladimir is the only man accountable in the heavyweight division after him chaos prevails. He now holds 4 titles: WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO.
