algieri52By Raj Parmar: On November 22, Manny Pacquiao (58-5-2, 38 KO’s) will defend his WBO welterweight title against Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KO’s) at the Venetian Resort Hotel in Macao China. Algieri came off the canvas to defeat Ruslan Provodnikov for the WBO light welterweight title in his last fight and will be moving up in weight to try to achieve a world title in a second weight class.

A pre-fight media tour was kicked off today in Macao to promote the fight and there were many praises for the undefeated American from Pacquiao as well as promoter Bob Arum. Manny feels that Algieri presents a great risk to his championship status and that he will need to work extremely hard to remain a world champion on November 22.

Mayweather vs. Maidana: Who’s really the dirty fighter?

YouTube video
By Raj Parmar: As the Floyd Mayweather vs Marcos Maidana rematch draws closer, both fighters are constantly throwing accusations at each other about being a dirty fighter. The drama started at the post fight press conference after the first fight, when Floyd ripped into the Maidana camp for using illegal tactics throughout the match.

There is no doubt that Maidana was very rough and dirty in the first fight as he hit Floyd with many low blows, shoved him through the ropes, elbowed him, headbutted him and even came close to hitting him with a knee to the head. Maidana’s trainer Robert Garcia was even heard in the corner instructing Maidana to use whatever roughhouse tactics were necessary in order to hurt Floyd.

Thurman: I’ve got an ‘0,’ and I’m not afraid to let it go!

thurman32423By Raj Parmar: As Kell Brook pulled off the upset against Shawn Porter this past weekend, the fighter that benefited most (other than Brook himself) was Keith “One Time” Thurman (23-0, 21KO’s).

Thurman’s team had been trying to set up a major showdown with Porter however they stated that Porter’s camp had not shown much interest or enthusiasm in finalizing a clash with Thurman.

This left “One Time” in a bad predicament for his quest to become world champion, as he is the mandatory challenger for Floyd Mayweather’s WBA welterweight title and Floyd is scheduled to face Marcos Maidana in September before taking the rest of the year off.

Group Shot(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Raj Parmar: As Shawn Porter (24-0, 15 KO’s) defends his IBF welterweight title tonight against challenger Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s), he will be fighting for more than just the opportunity to remain champion in what is becoming an increasingly crowded welterweight division. He has the opportunity tonight to separate himself from the pack and become one of the elite fighters in the division.

A few months ago Porter and fellow welterweight Keith Thurman (23-0, 21 KO’s) were frequently mentioned together as the top two welterweights on the rise. Both are undefeated, hit with tremendous power and have charismatic personalities. Earlier this year in May during the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana Pay Per View Event, the two were even interviewed together as the future of the division.
