Viva Maidana

maidana7895By Jamie Eskdale: In the wake of Marcos Maidana dominating Adrien Broner we have seen a glut of articles on Adrien Broner and hardly any on Maidana.

We can all understand why. Broner has been hyped beyond comprehension. Given god like status by some despite proving very little. The signs have always been there of how Broner didn’t react well to pressure. Daniel Ponce De Leon perhaps preparing the blueprint. Welsh fighter Gavin Rees tried and had some success but inevitably failed, probably due to his lack of physical presence more than anything else.

Then there was Paulie Malignaggi, everyone seen the fight and opinion seems to be split, just like the judges on who won. I say Broner edged it with Malignaggi’s lack of power costing him. Though had it gone his way I wouldn’t have argued.

Who is the most feared man in boxing?

golovkin451By Jamie Eskdale: With it seemingly being easy to avoid threats in boxing I decided to have a look through the divisions and see who is being avoided. While looking 3 names quickly popped up. Sergey Kovalev seems to be avoided like the plague. It would seem no one in the light heavyweight division wants anything to do with the Russian. Kudos must go to Nathan Cleverly for making a voluntary WBO title defense against the heavy handed Kovalev though it turned out to be a mistake as Cleverly was decimated in a 4 round destruction.

Kovalev made it clear he was ready and willing to fight anyone in the division and unification fights against the other champions were his priority.

When enough is enough

By Jamie Eskdale: There cannot be a sadder site in professional sport than the boxer who still plying his trade well past his sell by date. Being defeated by men who only 2 years earlier couldn’t lace their gloves.

Is Floyd Mayweather bigger than Boxing?

floyd76777By Jamie Eskdale: As the title suggests this article is about the current pound for pound number 1 Floyd Mayweather Junior.

This is an article I have been planning on writing for quite some time but have always refrained because of the sheer abundance of articles written about the man.

However with a lot of focus now being put on Manny Pacquiao I thought now would be the time to write.

People who have been following my more recent work will know me more for writing about corruption , bad judging and inept governing bodies out to line their own pockets at the expense of fans and fighters.

The Aftermath

By Jamie Eskdale: What a week the boxing world has had. In one of the most turbulent weeks in recent memory boxing fans, specifically British boxing fans have had to put up with a lot.

How to solve a problem like Deontay?

wilder04By Jamie Eskdale: Deontay Wilder, 30 wins 30 KOs, 6 foot 7 inches tall, athletic muscular physique and to top it all off he’s American. Just what the world has been crying out for, a dominant American heavyweight wrecking machine, right?

Well maybe. But you see this is boxing where things aren’t always quite what they seem. Where things can get a little twisted from time to time.

Now at this point I must point out that after Lewis retired I haven’t been a huge fan of the heavyweight division. Don’t worry I won’t start slating the division because let’s be honest probably everyone reading this has done enough of that over the last 10 years or so.

When a Champion isn’t a Champion

By Jamie Eskdale: To Win a boxing world title is supposed to be the pinnacle of ones’ career. A defining night which should signal to the world that you are the real deal and amongst the elite in the division.

The real heavyweight battle

By Jamie Eskdale: Boxing fans are being denied the right to see some real exciting fights because of Promotional stables unwilling or just out right refusing to work together. Last night Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16 KO’s) battered Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23 KO’s0 into submission to claim the WBO junior welterweight title.

In the Gutter

chavez200By Jamie Eskdale: 2 weeks have passed since the controversy of one of the judges scoring of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight in Las Vegas on September 14th.

2 weeks isn’t a long time, particularly in boxing where fights generally happen on a weekend. However, this is how long it has taken for the latest controversy to appear. Ladies and Gentlemen strap yourselves in for the roller-coaster ride that is professional boxing.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been accused many times of living off of his famous fighting fathers’ name. He has been accused many times of being given an easy ride by the WBC who’s president Jose Sulaiman is not only a close friend of his fathers but also his Godfather.

Poor judging

By Jamie Eskdale: In recent weeks we’ve seen for lack of a better phrase some questionable judging in big fights. Having let the dust settle and watch the outrage subside a little I thought now would be the time to write about these types of decisions and why they keep happening.
