Super 6: Success or Failure?

froch34434By Jamie Eskdale: The Showtime Super Middleweight Super 6 Boxing Classic may have ended over 2 years ago. However after reviewing the tournament this past week it got me thinking. Was the tournament successful and could it be repeated in different weight classes?

The Super 6 tournament started out with eventual winner Andre Ward, Andre Dirrell, Carl Froch, Jermaine Taylor, Arthur Abraham and Mikkel Kessler. Though during the tournament Andre Dirrell and Mikkel Kessler both withdrew, Kessler with an eye injury and Dirrell for alleged neurological reasons, though some claimed at the time it was because he was scheduled to fight Ward and didn’t fancy it.

Victor Ortiz: What next?

ortiz1 - CopyBy Jamie Eskdale: After Victor Ortiz’ catastrophic defeat at the hands of Luis Collazo this past Thursday night where can he go from here? Going into the fight it seemed everyone was of the opinion that this was a real must win fight for Ortiz. After his self imposed exile from the game following his nasty jaw break in his bout against Josesito Lopez, Ortiz really had to hit the ground running. This made Collazo as the choice of opponent all the more baffling.

Collazo himself was at a crossroads. The victim of some dodgy decisions in the past, Collazo had slipped under the radar.

The last I had seen of him was on the Hopkins Dawson undercard in his defeat against Freddy Hernandez. I must admit I lost track of him after this, and was surprised to see his name floated around as an opponent for Ortiz.

Mexico: A Boxing Country

marquez89By Jamie Eskdale: Mexico has provided us over the decades with some of the most entertaining boxers the world has ever seen. When you think of a Mexican fighter you think of a warrior who gives his all, never backs down, always willing to engage in a war and has a chin made of granite.

It was with this curiosity that I decided to go on a journey of sorts and immerse myself in Mexican boxing. Watching old bouts the hairs on my neck and arms literally stood up at times as I was gripped by the action I witnessed.

Keith Thurman: One Time’s time to Shine

There was one fighter who I wanted to include in the article however I resisted temptation because I thought it would only have been fair to devote a whole article to the guy. Step forward Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman.

Keith Thurman has been making his way up the Welterweight rankings almost unnoticed except to the hardcore boxing fan. Adrien Broner’s jump to Welterweight and immediate title shot seemed to take a bit of shine off of Thurman. Never one to bitch or moan Thurman has gone about his business impeccably and shown actions speak louder than words.
