Lamont Roach Vs William Zepeda Live Results Tonight

William Zepeda captured the vacant WBC lightweight title with a unanimous decision over Lamont Roach Jr. in Saturday night’s main event at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas. Zepeda’s relentless pressure and steady body attack forced Roach to spend much of the fight boxing off the back foot, limiting the effectiveness of his counterpunching.

Roach enjoyed success in spots with clean counters, but Zepeda maintained the higher work rate over 12 rounds to secure scores of 117-111, 117-111, and 118-110. The victory crowned Zepeda the new WBC lightweight champion after a disciplined performance against the former super featherweight titleholder.

Raymond Muratalla (25-0, 17 KOs) retained his IBF lightweight title with a unanimous decision over Robson Conceição in the co-feature, winning by scores of 118-110, 119-109, and 119-109. Muratalla controlled the fight from the opening bell, using sharp combinations, effective body punching, and disciplined defense to keep the former Olympic gold medalist from establishing any sustained offense. Conceição showed his usual toughness over 12 rounds but spent much of the night reacting to the champion’s attack and working off the ropes. The victory marked another commanding performance for Muratalla, who never allowed the challenger to gain a foothold in the fight.

Raul Curiel retained the NABF welterweight title with a majority decision over Quinton Randall in their 10-round bout. After a measured opening, Curiel (18-0-1, 14 KOs) increased the pressure over the second half of the fight, forcing Randall (17-4-1, 4 KOs) to spend more time on the defensive. The judges scored it 95-95, 96-94, and 100-90 in Curiel’s favor, although the widest scorecard drew criticism from some observers. Randall relied on movement and counterpunching for much of the contest while Curiel pressed the action through the closing rounds.

Charles Conwell (22-1, 17 KOs) made an emphatic return by stopping Paul Kroll (12-1-2, 8 KOs) at 2:38 of the ninth round in their scheduled 10-round junior middleweight bout. Conwell controlled the action from the opening bell, breaking Kroll down with accurate combinations, sustained body work, and consistent pressure. A left hook to the body in the ninth left Kroll badly hurt, and Conwell quickly followed with a barrage as his opponent struggled to answer. Referee Robert Hoyle stepped in to stop the fight after deciding Kroll had absorbed enough punishment.

Juan Carlos Becerril (3-0, 2 KOs) produced one of the night’s biggest surprises, stopping highly regarded prospect Dylan Capetillo (2-1, 1 KO) at 2:59 of the third round in their lightweight bout. Capetillo looked in control early and scored a knockdown before Becerril rallied with a dramatic turnaround. A crushing left hook in the third sent the 17-year-old prospect to the canvas, and although he beat the count, referee Thomas Taylor halted the fight after seeing Capetillo was no longer able to defend himself. The upset handed Capetillo the first loss of his young career and gave Becerril a breakout victory.

Joel Iriarte (11-0, 10 KOs) stopped Jorge Lagunas (19-10, 16 KOs) at 2:48 of the eighth round in their welterweight bout. Iriarte controlled the fight from the outset, breaking Lagunas down with steady pressure and accurate punching. Lagunas absorbed heavy punishment throughout the contest and offered little offense over the closing rounds. Referee Tony Weeks stepped in late in the eighth after deciding Lagunas had taken enough without mounting a meaningful response.

Gael Cabrera remained unbeaten with a unanimous decision over Francisco Portillo in their eight-round super bantamweight bout. Cabrera controlled the action from the opening round, keeping Portillo (20-15-2, 11 KOs) on the defensive with the sharper punches and higher work rate. All three judges favored Cabrera (12-0, 7 KOs) by scores of 79-73, 79-73, and 80-72. Portillo stayed competitive, but he was unable to slow Cabrera’s pace or overcome the Mexican prospect’s steady offense.

Dalis Kaleiopu stopped Yeyery Castillo (14-3, 11 KOs) in the opening bout of Saturday’s card, scoring an early knockdown before the referee halted the scheduled six-round lightweight contest in the first round. The unbeaten Hawaiian prospect overwhelmed Castillo (14-3, 11 KOs) from the opening bell, producing a dominant performance against the visiting Dominican. Kaleiopu’s power proved too much, ending the fight before Castillo had an opportunity to settle into the contest.
