Bill Haney Blames Shakur Stevenson for Fight Delay

Bill Haney ignores Shakur’s weight comment and says the lightweight champion is wasting time instead of finalizing their fight

Bill Haney says Shakur Stevenson is responsible for slowing negotiations for a long-awaited fight with Devin Haney. Rather than responding to Stevenson’s claim that Devin Haney now weighs 180 pounds, Bill accused him of wasting time instead of getting the deal done.

Bill’s response came after Shakur reacted to a DAZN training video of Haney by writing, “Cuz 180 lol.. Ian tripping tho IM HIM!” The WBO light welterweight champion suggested Haney has bulked up significantly during his time away from the ring but made it clear he isn’t concerned by the apparent size difference.

Rather than addressing Shakur’s estimate of Haney’s weight, Bill shifted the focus to the negotiations. His “wasting my time” remark appeared to reference the public back-and-forth that has slowed progress toward the fight. Shakur has insisted on a 144-pound catchweight and previously said Haney should vacate his WBO welterweight title before they meet. Those conditions have become sticking points as the two camps continue exchanging messages on social media.

Bill’s latest post suggests he believes Shakur has complicated the negotiations instead of helping move them toward a signed contract. While neither side has announced that talks have ended, the continued public exchanges have done little to convince fans that an agreement is close.

Many fans replying to the posts echoed that frustration, urging both camps to stop trading messages on X and finalize the fight instead. The social media rivalry continues, with Bill’s latest response making it clear he believes the holdup isn’t coming from Team Haney.
