Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn Fight in the Works for August

Ryan Garcia is already speaking like the Conor Benn fight is next, even as negotiations remain unfinished.

A source connected to discussions told BoxingScene that Garcia and Benn are “far along” on a deal for a late-summer WBC welterweight title fight, with August targeted. A venue and platform have not been finalized, though Netflix and DAZN are both in play.

Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) fueled that direction himself, posting on X after Benn’s win over Regis Prograis that he’s ready to make the fight. He went further soon after, predicting a one-sided outcome.

“Mark my words: His corner or the ref stops my fight with Conor in the 6-7 round,” said Ryan Garcia.

Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) did his part to push the fight forward with a unanimous decision over Prograis last Saturday in London, winning by three scores of 98-92. The result kept him in position as the WBC’s top-ranked contender, but the performance drew a mixed response, with some questioning whether he is better suited to a higher weight.

Garcia, who won the WBC welterweight title in February with a wide decision over Mario Barrios, would be making his first defense. The fight has also been linked to Saudi involvement after Turki Alalshikh expressed interest in staging a Garcia bout this summer.

Benn’s recent activity adds another element to the talks. He fought Prograis under a one-fight, $15 million deal with Zuffa Boxing, a move that created questions about where he would land next if the Garcia fight is finalized.

The timing is still being worked out, but both sides are now talking in a way that suggests this is the direction they are heading.

Garcia is already talking like it ends early. Benn still has to prove he can hold up at this level.
