Haney says a deal has been sent but the signature has not arrived
A proposed fight involving Devin Haney is still waiting on a signature after a contract was sent to the other side roughly a week ago, his father and trainer Bill Haney said during a brief interview outside the Mike Tyson Invitational.
Bill Haney indicated that the deal terms had already been delivered and questioned why the agreement had not yet been finalized. He suggested the offer had been strong enough that a delay was difficult to explain.
“They got a contract. It’s been a week. No signature,” Bill Haney said to Fighthype when asked about the status of the fight. “He said it himself. He said it was a great offer. I don’t know what the big delay is.”
Bill Haney also added a light jab while discussing the pause in negotiations, suggesting the paperwork might simply be taking time to review.
“You know, when you say it might take a little while to read them big words in that contract,” he said.
No additional details about the terms of the agreement were disclosed, though Bill Haney maintained that the offer had already been publicly described as favorable. The delay, therefore, appears tied to the signing process rather than unresolved financial demands.
Bill Haney said the fight is tentatively targeted for late May in Las Vegas if the contract is completed.
“It’s looking like it might get done May 30th here in Las Vegas,” he said.
Haney stated that both sides had already publicly discussed the possibility of the bout, which he believes increases expectations that the paperwork will eventually be completed. The Haney camp continues to treat the fight as the next logical step if negotiations conclude.
Until the paperwork is signed, the proposed bout remains unconfirmed despite the Haney side indicating the deal has already been placed in front of the opposing camp. Bill Haney made clear he expects the fight to move forward once the contract is returned with a signature.
