Ryan Garcia says his title fight against Mario Barrios is a “do or die moment” for his career. The challenger admitted opportunities at this level may not come again.

“This is like a do or die moment,” Garcia said to Sean Zittel about his title shot against WBC welterweight champion Barrios on Saturday night. “We don’t know if you’re ever going to get this type of opportunity again.”

Garcia’s words went past the routine fight-week bravado and exposed how thin the ground still is beneath him at championship level. Despite his popularity and commercial value, title opportunities are not permanent.
