Benn calls Garcia “phenomenal” and says Hearn remains part of his team
Conor Benn praised Ryan Garcia’s performance against Mario Barrios before addressing his own future with Matchroom and Zuffa. Speaking to iFL TV, he emphasized that Eddie Hearn remains part of his team..
“Yeah, I mean, I thought it was great. I thought Barrios was there for the taking. He was losing every round. Garcia had a great performance. Better than he looked against Rolly. He looked phenomenal,” Benn said.
Benn broke it down like a fighter would. Barrios stayed in front of Garcia and failed to vary his attack or adjust his feet. Garcia was able to set his stance, let his hands go in combinations, and build confidence round by round. When he fights in that rhythm, he is a problem for anyone who stands still.
The conversation shifted quickly to Benn’s departure from Matchroom.

“My career is based on Matchroom. They are the foundation of what I am today. I’ve got nothing but love for Eddie, and I’ve said I want him as part of my team in my corner, still with me, because the journey’s not over,” Benn said.
He made it clear the relationship remains intact.
“Of course, he’s my friend, he’s my guy. Ultimately, he should be happy for me that I’m in this position that I’m in. I want him to be part of it. I messaged him directly saying: ‘Eddie, I want you to be part of the team, man. I want you to be here.’ The journey’s not done. I owe everything to them.”
Benn is not burning bridges. He is moving business arrangements while keeping his core team and key relationships intact.
That approach protects relationships, but boxing always comes back to the fights. The talk fades once the bell rings and the level of opposition is clear.
Garcia’s win tightened the picture at welterweight. Benn’s next opponent will show whether this move pushes him forward or leaves him chasing ground.
