Boxing Results: Lawrence Okolie Stops Ebenezer Tetteh After Two Rounds in Lagos

Lawrence Okolie pummeled the overmatched journeyman Ebenezer Tetteh, stopping him before the third round in their heavyweight main event on Sunday night at ‘Chaos in the Ring II.’ The event was staged at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium) in Lagos, Nigeria.

The former two-division world champion, Okolie, hurt Tetteh twice in the opening round with right hands. In the first 15 seconds of the round, Lawrence connected with a scorching right that sent the 37-year-old Tetteh staggering back to the ropes.

In the final seconds of the round, Okolie connected with another right that almost dropped Tetteh.

After the round ended, Tetteh looked like he didn’t want to continue. That’s what seemed obvious. He’d been hit with a lot of rabbit punches from Okolie in the round, which the referee should have warned about but didn’t.

Also, on a couple of occasions, Okolie grabbed the back of Ebenezer’s head, pulling him forward while hitting him with uppercuts while he was bent over. Again, more illegal stuff that should have resulted in a warning.

Late in the second round, Lawrence tagged Tetteh with a right to the head, then cuffed him with a left hook behind the head to put him down. It was a picture-perfect rabbit punch that caused the knockdown. Did the referee penalize it or waive it off? Nope. It was anything goes inside the ring, and poor Tetteh was out on his own without someone to protect him.

In the final seconds, Okolie again nailed Tetteh with a rabbit punch. He then looked at the referee, showing that he was unhappy with the illegal punch. Still, nothing from him. The round ended after that, with no further extracurricular stuff.

Not surprisingly, Tetteh chose not to come out for the third round, and who can blame him? He was overmatched tonight. The constant roughhouse tactics from Okolie made things even worse.

Okolie weighed 271 lbs and had a sizable potbelly. He looked nothing like his old self when he had held the WBO cruiserweight title from 2021 to 2023. The way he fought tonight, it wouldn’t be a good idea to let him anywhere near WBO champion Fabio Wardley or Agit Kabayel.

“That’s the position I’m used to being in, champion of the world. In 2026, I’m guaranteeing it,” said Okolie about wanting to fight Moses Itauma next in a WBO title eliminator.
