Anthony Joshua Discharged From Hospital After Fatal Lagos Crash

Anthony Joshua was discharged from the hospital in Lagos on Wednesday evening, Nigerian authorities confirmed, two days after a road accident that killed two members of his inner circle.

The former heavyweight champion had been under medical observation following the crash, which occurred on Monday outside Lagos. Officials said Joshua suffered minor injuries and was cleared to continue his recovery at home.

The update was confirmed by Lagos state commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who said Joshua was released from Duchess International Hospital after doctors determined he was clinically fit.

Omotoso added that Joshua and his mother later visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay their respects to the two men killed in the accident. Both were being prepared for repatriation later that evening.

The victims were Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, longtime members of Joshua’s team. Ayodele served as his personal trainer. Ghami was his strength and conditioning coach. Both died at the scene.

Joshua was described by officials as emotionally shaken by the loss. He and Ayodele had shared social media clips earlier that day showing them playing table tennis, hours before the crash occurred.

Authorities have not released further details on the crash. Officials have not commented beyond confirming the fatalities.

Joshua had been in Nigeria following his recent return to the ring. On December 19, he defeated Jake Paul, marking his first bout after a lengthy absence from competition. The fight drew global attention and represented a commercial reset point in his career.

There has been no update on Joshua’s training plans or future schedule. His promoter previously said the focus was on rest and recovery.

For now, the emphasis has shifted away from boxing. The week has been defined less by his comeback and more by loss, grief, and a narrow escape that reframed the moment entirely.
