Shakur Stevenson posted a picture of himself smiling with a triumphant look on his face after sparring with his friend Keyshawn Davis inside the ring. He had a look on his face like things had gone well in his session with Keyshawn.
A Smile That Says It All
The former WBO lightweight Keyshawn didn’t look happy. Some fans on social media suspect that Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) had dominated the ring-rusty Davis, who hasn’t fought in eight months since his fourth-round knockout win over Denys Berinchyk on February 14, 2025.
Shakur, 28, is training for his fight with WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez in 2026. The fight is still in negotiations. Teo (22-1, 13 KOs) gave an update today and said he was “annoyed” by the slow progress of the talks. He says that “nothing is done” with Stevenson’s paperwork. Lopez states that “everyone” is blaming him for the delay, but he says Shakur hasn’t done his side of the contract.
Teofimo Lopez Losing Patience With Delays
“I’m waiting too. I’m kind of annoyed. I didn’t expect it to take this long,” said Teofimo Lopez to 10-8 Podcast, talking about the negotiations with Shakur Stevenson. “I want to fight already. There was some underlying that my team and I were trying to clear out before we get this all the way through.”
Lopez can’t afford to invest too much time on this fight. He hasn’t fought since May 2, 2025, and he didn’t look impressive beating Arnold Barboza Jr. by a 12-round unanimous decision. It looked to some fans that Teofimo imitated Shakur’s fighting style, retreating every time Barboza Jr. would step forward to punch. It was a dull fight, and it was a perfect copy of how Shakur performs.
Lopez vs. Stevenson: Waiting Game Continues
“I don’t even think they have paperwork set for Shakur yet. Everyone is throwing it at me, but nothing is even done with Shakur yet. I heard good news that this should come to a close. Let’s just sit and wait. I’m maintaining, staying in the gym, training, but I’ve got to start camp soon. January is around the corner.
“I’ll just wait for those guys to do everything to announce it. All I know is we’re getting close to the wire. I’ve got to get my team and everybody here with me. We got to start getting locked in,” said Teofimo.
