Richardson Hitchins Taunts Teofimo Lopez: ‘I Beat the Guy Who Owned You — Easily, No Sweat’

Richardson Hitchins is keeping his public feud going with Teofimo Lopez, boasting about his victory over George Kambosos Jr., a fighter that Teo lost to in 2021.

The back-and-forth started earlier today when Teofimo (22-1, 13 KOs) took a shot at Richardson, saying on X, “Heavy like 170+ pounds heavy.” This comment was in response to Hitchins’ bragging about being “heavy.”

Hitchins Won’t Let It Go

Hitchins has been repeatedly calling out WBO light welterweight champion Lopez since he exited Matchroom Boxing following his eighth-round knockout win over the played-out, struggling Kambosos Jr. on June 14, 2025.

Hitchins made a big deal about the victory, forgetting that Kambosos had a 1-3 record in his previous four fights when he fought him. He’d have more reason to brag if he’d shown some courage and fought Gary Antuanne Russell or Subriel Matias. Boasting about his win over Kambosos makes Hitchins sound smug.

Desperate for a Big Fight

The calling out of Lopez after choosing not to re-sign with Matchroom was a sign of desperation on Hitchin’s part. When he decided not to re-up with promoter Eddie Hearn, he appeared to be going by the belief that there would be a stampede for his services.

Richardson didn’t even get one big-money cash-out fight like Edgar Berlanga got after he chose not to re-sign with Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing after his first-round knockout win over Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz on March 15, 2025. Turki Alalshikh used Berlanga as the opponent for Hamzah Sheeraz after he’d become a free agent.

Reality Check for Hitchins

Hitchins needs to forget about pestering Teofimo, hoping he’ll throw him a bone. It’s not going to happen. Teo is finicky and only fights popular fighters or ones he’s 100% certain he can beat. Hitchins doesn’t fit either of those categories.

More realistic options for Hitchins

  • Ernesto Mercado
  • Gary Antuanne Russell
  • Keyshawn Davis
  • Subriel Matias
  • Alberto Puello
  • Jamaine Ortiz
