Devin Haney’s father, Bill Haney, came out in support today of the exhibition match between the retired Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Bill says the Tyson-Mayweather fight is a “real exhibition” and that the two legends “deserve to get plenty of money” in a match between them.

Haney Endorses The Legends’ Payday

Mayweather, 48, and former heavyweight champion Tyson will be fighting on PPV in the spring of 2026. There hasn’t been a price mentioned, but if it’s at the same level as Floyd’s fights against Manny Pacquiao in 2015 and Conor McGregor in 2017, it’ll be from $89.95 to $99.95.

Tyson will turn 60 on June 30, 2026. He’s coming off an eight-round unanimous decision loss to Jake Paul on November 15, 2024. The fight was one that counted in the record books.

“Let’s talk about the biggest and most important exhibition in boxing right now. Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson,” said Bill Haney on social media. “Now, you’re talking about a real exhibition between two legends that deserve to get plenty of money [fighting] together.”

Bill doesn’t give any examples of exhibition matches that aren’t real. However, given the advanced ages and the recent lackluster performances by Mayweather in his recent exhibition against John Gotti III on August 24, 2024, and Tyson’s match against Jake Paul, it may not be a highly entertaining exhibition between Floyd and Mike. Does that make it less real? The fans will decide whether they got value for the money they’ll be paying to see the spectacle.

Breaking Records, Making Money

“Let’s break records. Let’s everybody go out and support a real exhibition between two legend,” said Haney on the Tyson vs. Mayweather match. “This is how the game is supposed to go. We don’t need to confuse them with the other fighters.”

The problem with this exhibition is that fans will be expected to pay for a fight that may not be entertaining to watch. Tyson did not look good in his eight-round exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. on November 28, 2020. Fans on social media criticized the performances by both fighters, and some felt that it had a staged quality to it.

The Case for Cash

“Shout out to Floyd and shout out to Mike. ‘May’ (Mayweather] make more money than the mint [correction: The Mint in the U.S is where coins are produced. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) in Washington, D.C, is where paper money is printed.]” said Bill.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Mayweather’s fortune is estimated to be $400 million. Mike Tyson’s estimated net worth is $30 million.

“‘May’ check more money than the Mint [BEP] can print. A real exhibition between two legends in the sport of boxing. How can something be wrong with that? I want to come on and promote that fight because I think it’s a good fight. And if they get it on, may the best man win. May the Tyson family and the Mayweather family check plenty of money on this one. And anybody hating, let them choke,” said Bill.
