Ryan Garcia’s Post-Surgery Comeback: Kingry Shows Off Hand Speed in Bag Work

By Boxing News - 07/30/2025 - Comments

Ryan Garcia posted a video clip of him hitting the bag, showing off his hand speed following his recovery from recent hand surgery. He says he wants a rematch with Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero after losing a decision against him in a one-sided fight on May 2nd.

Ryan should take a tune-up to prepare himself for a rematch with Rolly, or to face someone else from the top tier at welterweight. Rushing straight into a second fight sounds foolish.

Garcia’s “No Hands” Claim

Fans are skeptical about Garcia’s chances of avenging his loss to Romero, and they view his excuses for the defeat as pathetic. Ryan blamed the defeat on his injured hand, saying that he was “basically fighting with no hands,” and that’s why he “barely threw any punches.”

It would have been better if Garcia had kept his mouth shut, accepted his loss, and given Rolly credit. His injury excuses after the fight made him look weak, like he was trying to whitewash his loss.

Kingry believes that with him now “healthy,” he can defeat WBA welterweight champion Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) in the rematch. Garcia says he’s got a “Plan” for the rematch, and that “run him over with it and sink him in deep waters” with pressure. Ryan never pressed that action after being dropped by Rolly in round two. The fight played out just like their sparring session years ago, with Romero bum-rushing a cowering Garcia and overwhelming him with punches.

Ryan said that Rolly “doesn’t take pressure and punches really well” and “doesn’t like fighting on the inside.” He’s using Romero’s fight against Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz as an example of his inability to fight on the inside. The 5’4″ Cruz had his way with Rolly on the inside, battering him with hooks to the head en route to scoring an eighth-round knockout.

Kingry’s Wealth, Commitment

Garcia wants to return to the ring in December. Fans have their doubts. Ryan has quickly amassed an immense $50 million fortune in the last two years since 2023. Some feel that he lacks the commitment to return to the punishing grind of being a world-class fighter.

As far as the rematch with Rolly, it’s unclear if Ryan can get that fight this year. The 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao is interested in fighting Romero for his WBA title, and he seems eager to fight him.
