Lamont Roach says Gervonta Davis is “scared to get embarrassed” by him in their rematch on August 16th in Las Vegas. He feels that WBA lightweight champion Tank (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is scared heading into their second fight. Roach states he wants Davis to “meet him in the center of the ring” to see which of them leaves with the win.
Tank’s Stock Drops: Gift Draw
Tank’s stock has dropped after his humiliating performance last March when he was given a gift 12-round draw against Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The referee saved Davis’ hide in that fight by failing to rule a knockdown when he went down in a delayed reaction from a jab in round nine. Then the referee failed to deduct a point from Tank when he walked to his corner without asking for a timeout to have hair grease removed from his eyes.
Those were the two instances where Gervonta should have been penalized. Had the referee made the right call on one or both of those, Roach would have won the fight. The fight showed the importance of having an alert referee.
“I don’t think he had hair grease in his hair anyway, but still, I hope you don’t have hair grease in your hair for the next fight,” said Lamont Roach to TMZ Sports about Gervonta Davis. “I’m not trying to hear none of that. Just know. Meet me in the middle of the ring. Then, we’re going to see who leaves out the ring.”
Davis’s “Crazy Nonsense” Exposed
The hair excuse sounded like some crazy nonsense that Tank Davis came up with after the fight to explain away how he’d lost his senses after eating a hard jab from Roach. That shot must have done more damage than fans realized at the time.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s scared of me as a man, but he’s scared to get embarrassed. That’s the problem,” said Roach.
