Ellerbe Confirms Davis vs. Roach Fight Still On Despite Tank’s Cancellation

Leonard Ellerbe confirmed today on X that the fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach is still on for March 1st at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) stirred up some drama this week when he posted this message on Instagram on December 23rd: “The fight is f*** cancel.” Davis later deleted the message. On the same day, Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) posted a video of him working, preparing for the fight.

Manufactured Drama?

Some fans believe Tank is trying to create fake drama to drum up interest in his mismatch against Roach because it’s seen as another one of his many cherry picks during his 11-year pro career.

The fight has already been moved once from December 14th to March 1st, and it’s seen as a product that no one wants. It won’t be a shock if Tank continues with the cancellation posts to get fans excited about this match.

It’s unclear whether the former Mayweather Promotions CEO Ellerbe is still working with Tank Davis or if he’s an acquittance.

Gervonta or his team failed to consider the fans’ reaction when they picked the light-hitting super featherweight Roach as his opponent.

Whether Tank Davis’s claim is fake or not, it’s troubling that Premier Boxing Champions didn’t issue an official statement about whether the fight is still happening.

They should have said something about this fight because Tank’s “cancel” Instagram post about the Roach fight went viral on the Internet, and many fans said they would no longer travel to see the fight. For PBC not to say anything, you have to suspect that there are problems.

It’s not a great fight to begin with, that’s a problem because it’s not going to do the big PPV numbers that Tank’s match with Ryan Garcia did or even his last one against Frank Martin.
