Ryan Garcia Promises to “F* Devin Haney Up”

Ryan Garcia showed up at the Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal press conference on Friday to give some words of encouragement and to let everyone know that he plans on doing a number on Devin Haney next week in their headliner on DAZN PPV on April 20th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) appears to be single-handled promoting the event, with WBC light welterweight champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) taking a free ride. When Haney does interviews, he says the same thing every time, and he’s no help at all. Ryan is running this promotion all by himself while the Haneys are MIA.

If Ryan pulls off the upset, he will melt the Internet and turn the world upside down. It’ll be that kind of a win for him and create a lot of interest in his career.

“I’m ready to f*** Devin Haney up next week. Anybody betting against me, y’all just lost money. Real talk,” said Ryan Garcia at the Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal press conference on Friday.

Porter: Ryan’s Betting on Himself

“I think it’s too much, and it doesn’t make sense. I think that’s what he wants with everybody counting him out,” Shawn Porter said on the Probox TV YouTube channel about Ryan Garcia’s fight against Devin Haney.

“I wouldn’t even be surprised if he bet a ton of money on himself that this is going to get Devin Haney and his team to let down their guard in some respects or come to the ring with the necessary energy to get a stoppage.”

I don’t see it as Ryan acting crazy to trick Haney into thinking he’s ready to be committed to Bellevue Hospital. He’s just talking and giving his thoughts on a lot of stuff that isn’t boxing-related. It’s not an act to make Haney think he’d ready for a padded cell.

Bill Haney pegged it right. Ryan has a superficial knowledge of many things, but he’s not informed enough to have a clear idea of what he’s talking about, so he sort of sounds wacky at times.

Can Ryan Surprise Everyone?

“I got a feeling that Ryan Garcia is going to the ring locked and loaded and really ready to perform in ways that we haven’t seen, if ever,” said Porter.

“I could be wrong, but I think he’s sly as a fox trying to get the Haney team to let down their guard if at all, hoping it will help him prevail in this fight,” said Porter.

Of course, Ryan will be ready for the fight with Haney. He’s boxing his whole life, and its the one thing that he truly knows. He’s an excellent marketer on social media but boxing is what he’s done his whole life, and he’ll be ready on April 20th to throw down.

Malignaggi: Time for a New Wrinkle

“You would hope that he’s developed some other wrinkles in his style since that point,” said Paulie Malignaggi about Ryan. “Add some deception about your left hook so they don’t know when you’re going to use it.”
