Ryan Garcia dismisses Devin Haney’s power ahead of their fight in 15 days on April 20th. Kingry sees Haney as underequipped physically for him to be a threat to him and nowhere near the power puncher as his past opponent, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.
Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) expects the pillow-fisted WBC light welterweight champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) to crumble mentally and physically once he starts landing his bombs on him with the 8-oz gloves in their headliner on DAZN PPV at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Tank Davis as the Benchmark
- “Haney is the least of my worries. If I wasn’t scared to fight Tank, why would I be worried about a guy who can’t crack an egg?” Ryan Garcia said to the DAZN Boxing YouTube channel, making it clear that he has no concerns about fighting WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney.
It’s likely that Haney won’t take chances of loading up on his shots against Ryan because there’s too much of a possibility of getting caught with one of his vaunted left hook smash shots.
Even if Haney sees that punch coming, he’s going to have a difficult time taking it without dropping. Ryan throws his left hook so fast that most fighters don’t see it coming. Tank Davis was wary of getting hit by that punch last year, and wasn’t taking any risks of opening up with his offense in the early going not to leave himself open.
Predicting Haney’s Mental Breakdown
“It’s not going to hurt me to be in the ring with him. The worst he can do is jab me,” said Ryan.”What are you going to do about me when that s*** is real? It’s not as if I’m throwing some pebbles. I’m hitting you with some rocks.”
We’ll see how willing Haney is to brawl with Ryan on April 20th because he’s going to have to take some big shots if he does.
“Even if it doesn’t hit you fully, you’re going to be like, ‘I don’t want to do this. I’m scared.’ He’s going to be worried. These are eight-ounce gloves. These are not pillow ten-ounce gloves that we fought in. This is some s***,” said Ryan.
“You thought I hit hard then. You got a whole other thing coming for you. This is not just a fight for me. This is deeper. I’m coming with a whole different energy and focus,” said Ryan.
