Super featherweight prospect Curmel Moton looked like pure 24K gold last Saturday night, defeating Anthony Cuba by a wide eight-round unanimous at the T-Mobile Arena in Laa Vegas.
Moton feels that he’s already one of the best fighters in the 130-lb division, but he just needs a chance to prove it against one of the top fighters.
With a fighting style that is a cross between a young ‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, Moton believes he’ll be the ‘Face of Boxing’ by the time he’s 25 or 26. He predicts that in a year or so, he’ll capture his first world title.
The 17-year-old Moton (3-0, 2 KOs) was extended the distance for the first time in his young career with his one-sided decision win over the previously unbeaten Cuba (7-1-2, 3 KOs) on the Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora card on Prime Video PPV.
Ambitious Timeline: Face of Boxing
“The way I feel right now, I’m one of the best at the weight [super featherweight] right now. I just haven’t had the chance to prove it,” said Curmel Moton to 210BoxingTv about him being one of the best at 130 after his victory last Saturday night against Anthony Cuba.
“By the time I’m 25 or 26, I should be the Face of Boxing by then. I plan in a year or a year and a half to have a belt at 126 or 130. So, I’m going to get back in the gym, work hard and be back in the ring soon.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Moton accomplishes his goal of being the ‘Face of Boxing so soon. If he keeps growing, he may wind up at 140 or 147, and we’ll see if he can dominate in those weight classes.
“It was great to get exposure and I feel like I didn’t disappoint. Anthony Cuba didn’t either, and we put on a great show for the fans. I’m glad I got the rounds in,” said Moton.
“Of course, I would have wanted to get a stoppage. I’m really happy I got the rounds in. It’s a lot of experience for me. Cuba had a lot of experience and he put up a great fight. He brought the best out of me and I’m thankful for the opportunity.”
Cuba was a lot better than some fans had thought he would be. He was plenty tough, and he hung in there when he taking big shots from Moton. It was still one-sided but Cuba wasn’t going to fold.
Hybrid Style: Defense and Power
“I feel like with Floyd, I got the defense, and with Tank, he comes with punching. I feel like that’s basically how you would describe my style like that or like a Pretty Boy style when Floyd was like staying on the inside, letting his hands go.
“It’s great to have praise from Abner Mares and Joe Goosen and all them guys. It lets me know where I’m at,” said Curmel Moton.
