The Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia undercard was revealed today for their April 20th event on DAZN pay-per-view at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The event sells for $80 on PPV on DAZN for U.S fans and £19.99 in the UK for the Brits.
A couple of good fights on the undercard may interest fans, but the price may scare many of them away. Fans would love this card at a reduced price, but it’s a bit much to ask them to pay $80 in the U.S.
Negative Reaction from Fans to Undercard
Fans’ reaction to today’s announcement of the undercard for Haney vs. Garcia has been negative. They’re not happy with the quality of the fights, especially for the price they’re being asked to pay for the event.
It’s fair to say the organizers will need to add other fights on the undercard for this event to succeed because fans are balking at the PPV price.
Many of them, so there is no point in ordering the card because the Haney-Garcia fight is seen as a mismatch, with WBC light welterweight champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) being too good and Ryan appearing mentally not at his best.
Haney is viewed as a boring pillow-fisted fighter, who clinches a lot, and moves around the ring, trying not to get hit. He’s a blend of an old Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shakur Stevenson. In other words, Haney is not must-see TV for PPV.
Barboza vs. McComb: A Rising Star and a UK Favorite
Light welterweight contender Arnold Barboza Jr. will fight UK fighter Sean McComb in the co-feature. It’s believed that the 32-year-old Golden Boy-promoted Barboza (29-0, 11 KOs) has been put on the card as insurance just in case Ryan has a meltdown and is pulled from the event.
McComb (18-1, 5 KOs) is ranked #8 WBO at 140, and it’s pretty obvious why he’s been put on the card. The organizers want to give British fans a reason to stay up until 4:00 am to watch the fight. The April 20th event is not expected to sell many PPV buys in the UK or the U.S., for that matter.

Barboza Jr., a recent addition to Golden Boy’s stable, is coming off an eighth-round knockout win over Xolisani Ndongeni last January.
