Veteran Dereck Chisora says WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will need to box IBF/WBA/WBO champ Oleksandr Usyk next month on May 18th because his injured right eye still hasn’t fully healed for their headliner in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Usyk will be like a starving shark, targeting Fury’s fragile eye.
Fury, 35, better have his dancing shoes on next month because he’ll need them against Usyk. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist will turn Fury’s face into a Picasso painting to attack his vulnerable recently cut eye.
Chisora expects Usyk (21-0, 14 KO) to get Fury’s eye to open it up, causing a “bloodbath.” Even if he does, it’s unlikely the ringside doctor will stop the contest. As we saw in Fury’s fight with Otto Wallin, he’s arguably too popular for a doctor to halt the fight on a cut.
Many agree that the fight in 2019 should have been halted and Wallin given the victory, but Fury was allowed to fight the entire 12 rounds with a horrific cut.
Fury’s Backup Plan: Mauling, Not Boxing
What could hurt Fury is if the cut opens and he’s fighting with limited vision, which would be difficult for him against the speedy sharpshooter Usyk, who would pick him apart.
If the cut opens, Fury will do what he does best: turn the fight into a Greco-Roman wrestling match, leaning, grappling, holding, and hitting all night. The recent sparring video in which Fury supposedly was cut shows him holding onto his opponent, clubbing him with shots one after another.
The sparring partner looked less than happy with Fury’s holding and hitting, and he nailed him with a perfectly placed elbow to the head. Will Fury stoop to holding and hitting Usyk?
There’s a good chance he will, even if he’s not cut. He doesn’t stand a chance of outboxing him because he’s too slow.
Bloodbath Incoming
“Fury is going to have to box. He can’t stand there because his eye is not healed yet. Under the eye is still cut,” said Dereck Chisora to the Lights Out YouTube channel when asked if Tyson Fury would be okay for his undisputed heavyweight championship fight against Oleksandr Usyk on May 18th.
“I know that Usyk is going to be training to tag the eye to get it to open the eye up. So, it’s going to be a bloodbath,” Chisora continued about the Fury vs. Usyk contest.
“Yes, with the way he wants it all now, totally different,” said Chisora when asked if Anthony Joshua can defeat Fury if the two fight.
