Promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. posted a message of support for his defeated stable fighter Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, who was crushed by lightweight Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz in eight rounds last Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Mayweather’s Problem: Cut Loose or Milk him Dry?
While it’s nice that Mayweather is trying to boost Rolly’s spirit, that won’t help his career. He doesn’t have the talent to compete with ANY of the top ten fighters at 140, and he’s too mediocre to reinvent himself at 147 or 154. Even with Mayweather’s help, Rolly has no future as a major player in any division.
Mayweather will need to figure out what he wants to do with Rolly. Does Floyd dump Rolly or keep him with his promotional stable, looking to put him in against Ryan Garcia if he loses to WBA light welterweight champion Devin Haney in their fight on April 20th?
Boneheaded Move of the Year
Rolly could make some money against a down-and-out Ryan after Haney beats him, but that’s about the best he can hope for. However, Ryan already said he wants nothing to do with Rolly after he walked away from their negotiations to take a smaller payday against Pitbull Cruz in the co-feature spot on the undercard of the Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora card last Saturday night on Prime Video PPV.
It’s believed that Rolly’s move may have cost him many millions. He would have made a ton of money fighting Ryan, and he likely didn’t get much for his undercard fight against Cruz.
To say that was a stupid move on Rolly’s part to reject the Ryan Garcia fight in favor of an undercard match against Pitbull Cruz is an understatement. Whoever talked Rolly into making that choice really messed him up BAD.
Floyd’s Fluffery Falls Flat

“In this journey, we call life, you’ll win, and you’ll lose; that’s the game. But in life, we all face losses, including myself. So remember, when people try to knock you down, don’t let it keep you there. Get back up, stay true to yourself, and acknowledge just how much you’ve accomplished.”
Rolly will not be given any world title shots at this performance, and there aren’t any vacant belts for him to capture, as we saw him winning a controversial ninth-round knockout against 40-year-old Ismael Barroso in 2023.
WBA light welterweight champion Rolly (15-2, 13 KOs) looked overmatched from the get-go, coming close to getting knocked out in the first round by the 5’4″ Pitbull Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs), who was picked out as his opponent from the 135-lb division in what many was a way to give Romero a better chance of holding onto his strap.
