De La Hoya’s Got Us Believing in Unicorns: Haney vs. Garcia a Slugfest?

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya is trying to convince fans the Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia fight will be a vicious, tooth & nail brawl on April 20th, with both fighters going to war to thrill the crowd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

De La Hoya is just talking to get fans interested in purchasing the event on DAZN PPV because Haney is out of the Shakur Stevenson School of Safety first, and he will make it boring with his usual cautious approach. De La Hoya’s job is to sell DAZN subscriptions.

Ryan’s Strategy: Play Possum to Lure Haney In

Haney’s fighting style is dull, and it won’t change for this fight. If this match is going to be thrilling, Ryan will have to tinker with the Philly shell that he tried out in his last fight, inviting Haney to go on the attack. Haney must think it will be a cakewalk for him to show courage.

Here’s a tip,  Ryan: Haney likes timid opponents who don’t throw punches. If you want to lure him in, he’s got to use the Philly shell and look inept, which shouldn’t be hard. I can see this working like a charm for Ryan.

Ryan doesn’t have clue one how to use the Philly shell, and Haney is well aware of that. So, if Ryan wants to lure Haney in, he should pull the Philly shell bit and make sure he turns his back to him like he was doing against Oscar Duarte last December. That’ll make Haney feel courageous enough to mix it up.

Oscar Optimistic

“I like Devin Haney because he will engage. He’s a fighter, he’s a master boxer,” said promoter Oscar De La Hoya to the media on whether Devin Haney will go to war with Ryan Garcia. “If he gets hit once, he’ll want to retaliate, and he’s very proud.

“So, I see this fight as being a slugfest, I really do. I see Devin Haney trying to time Ryan Garcia coming in, but I just think when one of the fighters get hit, it’s going to turn into one of the clashes where they’re going to remember the amateur days.

“You watch. These types of fights take you to the next level,” said De La Hoya.
