‘Boots’ Ennis Wants Undisputed at 147, But PBC Presents Roadblock

IBF welterweight champion Jaron Boots Ennis said he wanted to be undisputed at 147 and 154. Unfortunately, that will be impossible at Matchroom Boxing since PBC has all the straps locked up at 147 and 154.

Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) signed a multi-fight deal with Matchroom today. He hopes the company will keep him busy, put him in big fights, and help him achieve his immediate goal of becoming the undisputed champion at welterweight.

The PBC Roadblock

It’s going to be impossible for Boots Ennis to become undisputed at welterweight, given that PBC manages WBC interim champion Mario Barrios and WBA champ Eimantas Stanionis. Al Haymon of Premier Boxing Champions isn’t likely to be open to the idea of letting

Boots Ennis fight Barrios or Stanionis knowing that their chances of winning would be slim. The belts would be with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom company, and Jaron then would defend them on DAZN.

“I’ll fight anybody; I don’t care who it is. I’m excited about collecting all of the belts – WBA, WBC, and WBO to become undisputed. That’s what I’m excited about,” said Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis to Matchroom Boxing about wanting to collect all the belts at 147.

Boots will have to lower his expectations of what he can accomplish with Matchroom Boxing. They’re a great company, but they’re not miracle workers that make fights with PBC fighters unless Al Haymon views it as a good deal.

Ennis should focus on getting the best possible fight and hope that Matchroom can keep him busy. He hasn’t fought since last July when he beat Roiman Villa by tenth-round knockout. So, the immediate goal for Boots should be to get busy and be seen as often as possible to build his star power.

Eddie Hearn should already have someone in mind for Boots Ennis’ next fight in the summer. Some fans believe that Hearn wants to schedule a fight between Boots and welterweight contender Conor Benn, who is popular in the UK with British fans. It’s a fight that would have to take place in the U.S due to Benn’s problems over his failed drug tests from two years ago.
