Tyson Fury’s ‘No-Sleep’ Excuse: “You’re Not Doing Him a Favor” – Slammed by Johnny Nelson

Analyst Johnny Nelson slammed Tyson Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, for making excuses for Tyson’s off-performance against debutante Francis Ngannou last October.

According to Nelson, Spencer claimed that Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) hadn’t slept for three days before his ten-round clash against Ngannou on October 28th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Ngannou got the better of Fury, dominating him, dropping the 277-lb Gypsy King and arguably beating him. However, the judges saved Fury’s hide, giving him a questionable ten-round split decision, which many boxing fans saw as a gift.

Making excuses for Fury’s performance against Ngannou is useless because the boxing world already saw what happened in that fight, and no amount of excuse-making will erase the image of Tyson getting batted around the ring by the aging novice.

What that fight showed are two things:

1. Age-related physical deterioration: Tyson’s legs are gone
2. Fury was never as good as fans thought

Unbecoming of a Champion

“I saw something where Spencer Brown said that Tyson didn’t sleep for three days before [his fight against Francis Ngannou]. That’s a big no-no. You don’t do that,” said Johnny Nelson to the Pro Boxing Fans YouTube channel, reacting to Tyson Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, saying that he’d not slept for three days before he fought Francis Ngannou last October.

The no sleep for three days excuse is a pretty weak one, isn’t it? Couldn’t Spencer come up with a better one than that, like, ‘Fury had an arm injury?’  It doesn’t matter what excuses are floated. Fans aren’t listening, and now they view them as an old-washed fighter still living off his wins over Deontay Wilder.

“You don’t get your mate to say, ‘It’s because of this.’ You keep that in-house,” said Nelson. “Spencer Brown, I don’t know if he was trying to do a job in terms of protecting Tyson or doing him a favor. You’re not doing him a favor. When they do that, they’re like crybabies. That’s what it looks like.

“So, he looks like a crybaby. It [Fury’s terrible performance against Ngannou] only happened because he hadn’t slept for three days. That’s not Tyson. Spencer Brown shouldn’t have done that,” said Nelson.

The cut that Fury suffered and the rumors of him getting dropped left & right by his sparring partners in preparation for his fight against Oleksandr Usyk are way worse than the no-sleep excuse.
