Trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre insists Jaime Munguia “can’t beat” Canelo Alvarez when the two fight on May 4th.
BoMac points out that the 27-year-old Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) hasn’t had any big fights during his 11-year professional career and is not experienced enough for him to dethrone the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs).
Canelo vs. Munguia will be shown on Amazon Prime and DAZN PPV on May 4th. Munguia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, believes this will be a passing of the torch between Canelo and Jaime.
Oscar can’t wait to see Munguia defeat King Canelo to become the next star at 16, but he will have to fight better than he’s shown recently against John Ryder and Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
BoMac’s Reality Check
“He won’t, I don’t give a damn what he do,” said trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre to K.O Artist Sports when asked if Jaime Munguia will beat Canelo Alvarez on May 4th. “I don’t got nothing against Munguia, but you can’t beat Canelo.”
What BoMac is leaving out is the likely rationale for Canelo fighting Munguia, which is to fight a guy who is popular but safe for him. Munguia is popular with many boxing fans in the U.S. and Mexico, but he’s flawed and has never been tested at 168.

To get the Canelo fight, Munguia should have had to fight at the very least, David Morrell Jr. or Caleb Plant, if not David Benavidez. Munguia has skipped over the line to get a payday against Canelo, and again, the reason for that is he’s safe.
Canelo’s Resume Speaks Volumes
“He’s [Canelo] been in with the best, and Munguia ain’t had no big fight like that. All the big fights that Canelo has had, and the waters he’s tested and all the weight classes. I can’t see it. Remember, that’s my opinion,” said BoMac.
