Jamel Herring Unsure About Ryan Garcia’s Behavior: Is It An Act?

Former world champion Jamel Herring hopes Ryan Garcia isn’t feigning having mental problems to promote his fight against WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney on April 20th on DAZN PPV.

Herring isn’t sure what to make of Ryan’s intention with his peculiar behavior, but he’s not in favor of this if he’s just doing it to market his mega-fight against Haney (31-0, 15 KOs).

He also points out that Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) shouldn’t be mad at the New York State Commission for wanting a mental evaluation of him, given the wacky stuff he has posted on social media.

Ryan’s post about wanting to take a bite out of Haney’s ears was more than enough for the New York Commission to ask for a mental evaluation. It will get interesting if Ryan continues to refuse to be evaluated.

Herring: Mental Health is No Joke

“Me being an advocate of PTSD and mental awareness, but if you’re just playing it as a game to promote, I can’t get down with that,” said former world champion Jamel Herring to Fighthype talking about Ryan Garcia, who some fans believe is faking like he’s gone crazy to promote his fight against Devin Haney on April 20th.

If Ryan fakes being crazy in hopes of creating interest in his fight with Devin, that’s pathetic and just wrong. It’s a sad way for a fighter to market a fight, but it would suggest that Ryan doesn’t know how to get fans excited about his fight other than pretending he’s gone nuts.

Don’t Blame the Commission

“You can’t get mad at the New York State Commission for wanting to do a mental evaluation. Like, bro, you’re putting crazy s*** out there every day, so what do you expect?” Herring said about the Commission wanting Ryan Garcia to be mentally evaluated, which he has declined to do thus far.

“I hope to see the fight, but if not, put someone in there that wants to fight Devin Haney.”
