Trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre views Canelo Alvarez as an easy win for his fighter, Terence Crawford, if the two meet. However, BoMac’s comments might be self-defeating because they could make Canelo less likely to face Crawford rather than encourage him.
Bomac would be better off keeping his yap shut and steering Crawford toward more attainable fights, like Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
Canelo: Not Impressed
Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) has repeatedly told the media that he has ‘nothing to gain’ from fighting welterweight champion Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs).
That comment should be a signal that Crawford and McIntyre need to move on rather than continue to bang the drum for a fight that won’t happen against the superstar Canelo.
Alvarez sees zero upside in fighting the aging Crawford, who only has one notable name on his 16-year resume: Errol Spence Jr.
Crawford Missing Out on Action
Crawford, 36, is fixated on the elusive payday clash against Canelo, which the Mexican star has already rejected, he’s missing out on the fights he could have against these killers:
- Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis
- David Benavidez
- David Morrell Jr.
“Bud beats his a**,” McIntyre told the media, predicting a win for Terence Crawford over Canelo Alvarez if the two meet. “Outbox his a**, just outbox him. It don’t matter; Bud been fighting big people all his life,” McIntyre said about Canelo being bigger than Crawford.
In my expert opinion, BoMac’s mouthing off might even backfire. Rather than encouraging Canelo to fight Crawford, it will make him even more disinterested in facing him, using the same trash-talking tactic that David Benavidez has unsuccessfully employed. As the saying goes, “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.”
Superior Boxing IQ
“It would be an Errol Spence-Crawford II. Hard boxing fans know that Bud could beat Canelo. He’s got a good boxing IQ, but he don’t have that crazy IQ that Terence has,: said BoMac.
Crawford must tell BoMac to zip his lip and ditch this hopeless Canelo dream. Focusing on actual, real fights is the way for BoMac and Crawford to go, not this unrealistic, pie-in-the-sky vision that has a chance of happening.
