Subriel Matias Inks Deal with Matchroom, Eyes Big Fights on DAZN

Promoter Eddie Hearn has signed IBF light welterweight champion Subriel Matias to his Matchroom Boxing stable, giving him the most avoided and arguably the best fighter in the 140-lb division.

With his 100% KO percentage, Matias’ fights will now be seen on DAZN, giving the streaming network an outstanding fighter to drive the subscribers.

Surprisingly, Top Rank didn’t scoop up Matias to match him against their fighter, WBO 140-lb champion Teofimo Lopez, but perhaps they didn’t want to see their star Teo lose to the less-known Puerto Rican knockout artist and have all their money poured into the New Yorker’s career wasted

The addition of the killer Matias (20-1, 20 KOs) gives Hearn the following fighters from the 140-lb division:

– Richardson Hitchins
– Liam Paro
– Jack Catterall
– Regis Prograis

Explosive Puncher Heads to Streaming

Matias is now the prize gem of Hearn’s stable at 140 and gives him a pawn to lure WBC 140-lb champion Devin Haney to face in a unification if he gets past Ryan Garcia on April 20th.

Some boxing fans believe Matias is the one fighter at light welterweight that Haney and his dad, Bill, want no part of due to his power and how he stalks his opponents to chop them apart.

Matias is a far more entertaining-to-watch fighter than Haney, and he’s rugged, perfectly designed for trench warfare. He’s the real thing, not a Mayweather knockoff-type fighter that puts fans to sleep.

Matias looked outstanding in his last fight, walking down and stopping previously unbeaten #1 Shohjahon Ergashev (23-1, 20 KOs) in the sixth round to capture the vacant IBF light welterweight title last November at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

Immediate Title Defense Looms

IBF champion Matias’s first fight with his new Matchroom promoters will be against unbeaten #7 Liam Paro (24-0, 15 KOs) in June or July in Puerto Rico. It should be interesting on DAZN.

The southpaw Paro has looked outstanding in his last two fights, stopping Montana Love and Brock Jarvis. We’ll see how Paro holds up under the shelling from Matias in this fight. If Paro wins, he would be the one that Hearn will look to match against Haney in unification.

“I am very excited about the deal we’ve reached with Matchroom,” said Matias. I can’t wait to show DAZN, Matchroom, all the big names out there, and the world why this deal was made: because I am the best 140-pounder on the planet.”
