Gervonta Davis Takes Aim at Benn: “Three Weeks and Your [Backside] is Grass”

Gervonta Davis took a verbal shot at welterweight Conor Benn today, reacting to being included on his five-fighter list of opponents that he wants his promoter Eddie Hearn to line him up against next for a fight.

Like many fans, Tank (29-0, 27, KOs) wasn’t impressed with how Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) fought last Saturday night with his twelve-round unanimous decision over the obscure fighter Peter Dobson in Las Vegas.

Benn looked so bad that there’s likely to be a stampede of fighters wanting to face him now.

WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Tank Davis says it’ll take him three weeks to prepare for a fight against the Hearn-promoted Benn before he’s ready to fight him in His Excellency Turki Alalshikh’s home country, Saudi Arabia.

“No funny, the way you looked last night. Give me three weeks and a weekend in Turks [Saudi Arabia], and your [backside] is grass. Do you hear me!” said Gervonta Davis on X, reacting to welterweight Conor Benn including him on a list of fighters that he’s interested in fighting next.

This was the list of fighters Benn told Hearn that he wanted to fight next:

Gervonta Davis
Chris Eubank Jr.
Errol Spence
Kell Brook
Mario Barrios

Any of the above next, Eddie Hearn,” said Conor Benn on X.

Rather than being honored that Conor Benn had included him on his list of potential opponents that he wants Hearn to set up a fight with next, Gervonta seemed to take it as an affront to him, causing him to react angrily.

It’s questionable whether the Saudis would be willing to make a fight between Tank Davis and Benn in their country this year. If anything, they would want to match Tank against Devin Haney, attracting more worldwide interest.

Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) holds the WBC light welterweight title and is a two-division champion. In comparison, Benn is still trying to find his way in the pro game, fighting older guys, and lesser opposition.

It was obviously troubling to watch how Benn struggled to defeat the second-tier opponent that Hearn dug up for him last night in his fight against the 33-year-old Dobson.

The sour look on Hearn’s face at the post-fight press conference last Saturday night told the whole story, making it clear that he wasn’t pleased with how Benn had performed in the fight.

Not surprisingly, Hearn wasn’t crowing about Conor’s victory and did not seem happy.
